This spring, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on Ambient, IDM and Deep Techno.

Paul Rêve, DJ and producer of Visages, explores the land of dreams and pulls out the most amazing ones to share in his mixes.

The selection of this podcast, mainly composed of ambient and dub music, invites you to surrender to the warmness and slow down to the rhythm of the heat wave.

Today, hyperconected communities, AI-driven processes, quantum computer clusters and socio-cultural progress share their time and space with ghosts of the past, geopolitical spasms and gestures of profound violence. In a time when we seek new definitions, what constitutes a territory? What does a map show/ explain? What are we and what are the boundaries of who we want to be?

Romanian-born, Berlin-based Cosmin Nicolae and Simina Oprescu ask questions of a diasporic tone, in a sonorous quest to map out issues and entertain reflection. Australian-born, Berlin-based artist Michael Tan tackles norms using generative, traditional and emerging technologies providing the visual component of the Map x Territory experience. 

Simina Oprescu is a composer and multidisciplinary artist from Bucharest, Romania. She graduated the Dynamic Image and Photography Department at the Bucharest National University of Arts and studied at the department of acousmatic composition at the Royal Conservatory of Mons (Belgium) for one year. She is currently residing in Berlin, continuing her studies at the UdK’s M.A - Sound Studies and Sonic Arts.

Cosmin Nicolae is an anti-disciplinary artist working with image, sound, text to produce works of intimate reflection at the intersection of autoethnography, psychogeography and possible futures. Composes for film, dance, theater, installations. Projects with Teatro Antico di Siracusa, Staatsballet Berlin, Gap x Balenciaga.

Our latest podcast was recorded by the Milan-based artists Alessandro Giustiniano  aka Vivian Bell. A familiar name on the local experimental music scene yet Alessandro’s persona and work are still shrouded in mystery when it comes to spaces outside Milan and it makes us really proud to be able to present his beautiful mix as part of our series 🌸

Since the very first listen, we felt that this was a truly special contribution ~ a thorougly researched and thought out trajectory of sonic happenings where the whole becomes much bigger than the sum of its parts ✨

Brace yourself for an hour of subtle and deeply sublime textured sonics swarming with microscopic life carefully set within spacious field recording scenes weaved together with emotive musical passages. Something a bit different from our usual podcasts, today is all about psychedelic raving with no other one than @ultralowvelocity, the upcoming project from @antoinnnnnnnne and @a_strange_wedding 

“Ultra low velocity zones (ULVZs) are patches on the core-mantle boundary that have extremely low seismic velocities. The zones are mapped to be hundreds of kilometers in diameter and tens of kilometers thick. Their shear wave velocities can be up to 30% lower than surrounding material. The composition and origin of the zones remain uncertain.

In the middle of the summer, lost in the mountains of Ardèche in France, took place the mighty Champs Libres event, hosted by the one and only @rochel. It is in this magnificent landscape and surrounded by friends from all over the country that ULV came to life.

As the sun went down and the stars started to shine, they drove the crowd through a 3 hours journey, from abstract percussion madness to deep and visceral techno, slowly sinking the dancefloor into a psychedelic madness, where minds and bodies dance in the warped space time.”

Karagi ಏ Ultra Low Velocity

For the last mix of the year, we are hosting one of our favorites: Polygonia! The Munich-based musician has been one the busiest in 2020 with releases on our beloved On Board Music label but also on her very own IO, she runs with Dycide and MTRL. An excellent EP on French imprint Lowless, we particularly dig, has recently seen the light too. Her deep and atmospheric productions are always full of emotions, intense and are a perfect interpretation of modern Deep Techno. When Polygonia is not producing or behind the decks, you can also find her making V/J for bands or doing new instrumental & experimental collaborations. We are very grateful to have her for the last episode of 2020! Merci Linni x
