Born in Colombia, the delicate intricacies of Launaea’s creative outputs within the realms of deep sounds are renowned for their breathtaking enchantment, always distinguished for being a constant growth of lush atmospheres blended with percussive and tribal rhythms, taking the nature as a source of inspiration and converging subtly and pleasant textures layered with a variety of soundscapes that evoke states of tension and calm at the same time.

As founder of ‘From a Lost Place’ label, Launaea has been doing different publications in his own imprint, also a collaborative project with Laura BCR released on the iconic Robert Johnson Label, and upcoming releases on Semantica Records and Polish imprint Dans Le Desert, among others.

Bio:

Salva Coromina  aka ABSIS. 
His involvement in the Barcelona scene began in the late 90s under the alias MouseDown/MouseUp, having years of experience as Dj resident in club such as Razzmatazz (The loft) and festivals like Sonar.
He has always been exploring the deeper side of electronic music, moving from ambient to techno. ABSIS currently runs his residency at Laut club in Barcelona with the Midline parties... he is also a resident at the MOSTRA festival in Barcelona and his productions are published on labels such as hivern discs, Affin and Oslated among others.

Some words by Joan about the mix:

"I always like to conceptualize my mixes. It helps me set boundaries and avoid falling into the endless musical rabbit hole - which, frankly, can be overwhelming. This particular mix took me time to find its definitive form. After my latest vinyl purchases over the past few months, as well as an exploration of CDs (a whole fascinating world in itself), I was finally able to define its premise.

The mix unfolds across four movements. Three of them are based on a deconstruction of a long-form minimalist drone composition, layering elements of field recordings, electroacoustics & musique concrète, or additional drones. Each movement explores textures, dialectics, and microtonalism respectively. In between, the remaining movement serves as a purely experimental interlude.

This time, I can’t provide a tracklist - I couldn’t even say exactly what I used or in what proportion. The selection flows together in a way that’s hard to pinpoint, with a mix of works and pieces that come together naturally. That said, I can share that it features a strong presence of musique concrète and electroacoustic works from the '70s and '80s, including artists like Jep Nuix, Olly Wilson, Hans Roosenschon, and Anne Ben Hammou, along with revered names in drone and minimalism like Éliane Radigue, Bernhard Günter, Sarah Davachi, or Toshiya Tsunoda. There are also more recent sonic experiments and compositions – names like Richard Chartier, Steve Roden, Pablo Diserens, Jana Winderen, ENA, or Lotus Eater - some of which we’ll have the chance to experience at Mostra. And of course, there are also tracks from friends - this time, Oisatsana, ABSIS, and Menhir."

The Observatory - Joan Gila

Means&3rd aka Ben Marsden joins us for episode 469 with an extensive session covering over 2 hours worth of techno territory.

The Manchester based artist can be found behind the counter at the legendary Eastern Bloc Records where he fronts the house and techno curation for the shop.  He has leveraged his exposure to the latest sounds there to promote his own Unveiled Nuance events and label as well as securing performances at events throughout the country.

Some words from Ben - 

"I aimed to create something that reflects where I am sonically right now. The aesthetic of the deeper sound has expanded so much lately, touching on all sorts of BPM's and vibes, and I've really been loving every bit of it. This music requires some patience and a commitment to fully appreciate it, which is one of the reasons it continues to captivate me so much.

MNMT 469 : Means&3rd

This week we land in Valencia and spend a moment with Ilayruni, a 19-year-old with an ear for rhythm and space, still shaping his sound but already showing a feel for nuance. Earlier this year, he released Mountain Flyers EP on Sungate, a label with which we’ve worked closely over the years, known for its focus on various shades of techno and a taste for forward-thinking sounds.

His hour-long set is made entirely from his own material, and it leans into the shadows. It starts slow and murky, with a dense, eerie atmosphere that unfolds with intent. The progression is subtle but steady, each track steps a little deeper into the fog, each rhythm adds a sharper edge. There’s tension in the way it builds, but no drama.

There’s a clear affection for polyrhythms and off-center grooves, and a careful balance between control and drift. The textures shift, the pace grows, but the mood stays intact, claustrophobic at times, even hypnotic. It’s not polished to perfection, and that’s part of the charm. You hear someone exploring, reaching, figuring it out in real time. A young producer following instinct, not trends. We’re curious where that path leads.

We’re delighted to share another great chapter of our Herbarium mix series, this time recorded by @reasphere! 🌸 It’s a journey full of gems from which you can sense that they have been waiting for the right opportunity to pop out in a very special story. Minimalistic yet trippy and deep compositions with very few but perfectly on point placed elements. rea chose Colobanthus Quitensis (also known as the Antarctic pearlwort) as inspiration for his mix.

Here's a little backstory by rea about his choice:
“It’s the the most southern species growing in Patagonia and Southern Antarctica.
Even above the polar circle it’s sometimes too hot for the plant to survive - similar to the selected music it needs a very specific setting and mood to unfold its power.
Enjoy the sharp resilience.”

The first track 'Enigmatic Forest' paints the pure beauty of huge clusters of trees, bushes, flowers, animals and mushrooms. Just like a big spotlight on the beauty of nature.

The second one 'Whispering leaves' tells you about the feeling when you are alone at night in the bushes, your knees are shaking and the leaves whisper their unknown thoughts to each other. You never know what's gonna come...

'Fantasma de la Selva' takes place in a more open area of this forest where you can see the light fall though the trees. The ghosts are flying through the shadows of the leaves and disappear when they're hit by sunlight.

Last but not least of the tracks is 'Blind Tin Soldier'. This little tin guy got lost on a family trip, when he was walking through the forest with his owner, a cute boy. Now he is running around without any direction, shivering and screaming. His despair is so uncomfortable but so good to dance to...what a conflict...

@DelusionalCircuits and @Dycide remixed two tracks here, you will hear what magic happens, when they touch this work with their artistic hands.

In some truly safe hands this week with one of Asia's finest operators treating us to three hours of intergalactic house! Gregory Huang aka @diskonnected is one of the pioneers behind Taipei's Smoke Machine (@smokemachinetaipei), the long running techno podcast and party series that started 10 years ago as a semi regular run of "chaotic" DIY parties around the city, and has since gone on to become the epitome of high quality techno with a cult following around the world.

We caught up with Gregory for some rare insight into all the happenings over at Smoke Machine HQ, and he's shared with us a brilliant mix of spacey house with plenty of all-time-classics thrown in, recorded live at Safe Room in Bangkok last year.
