PREMIERE: Bohdan - New Realm [CINUS]

Rarefact is the title of Vishal Unni's upcoming release on Qilla Records and the track we happily host its premiere. Smoothly and gradually, its subterranean groove shakes its foundation and provokes, in turn, an unintentional mood elevation and body participation. Thus, complemented by tender pads and flickering background noise, the loop embraces us as it carefully unwinds. Leading, then, to a delightfully rewarding drop that introduces us to the track's closing chapter. A high-quality dance composition reminiscing adventurous excursions to obscure and dark dance floors. Or, in Vishal's words: "an ode to the Indian dance floors". Along with it, a discussion with the producer about his last release for 2022 with some intriguing details.

MNMT Premiere: Vishal Unni - Rarefact

In the galaxy's far reaches, there is a desolate planet. Mesza, with its jagged mountains and barren landscapes, is home to a garden with one very significant flower.

The locals believe that the flower has the power to collect chaos in the universe and keep things in balance. No one knows who built it initially and how. It was a source of great mystery and awe.

One day, the local tribe was eager to study the machine. They set up camp in the garden and began their research. For weeks, they observed, took notes, and wondered at the device.

What is chaos? How does it collect it? And why is there still so much chaos in the galaxy? They couldn't answer the mystery of these questions. There were all sorts of debris flying around the flower and every time they tried to get closer they couldn't reach it. The machine was protected by an impenetrable force field.

With no solution but to leave, they failed in their mission to finally uncover the secrets of the Chaos Collector. The only thing they were sure of is that if something happens to it, things would get much worse. So they vowed to protect it at all costs.

PREMIERE: Kontinum - The Collector [Hypnotic Motion]

In the vast expanse of our cosmos, each human encounter forms a constellation—a fleeting alignment of stars illuminating the darkness of our solitude. We traverse these celestial bodies, orbiting others, drawn by the gravity of shared experiences and emotions. Yet, how often do we land upon these planets—these people—only to find barren landscapes devoid of the life we once imagined? The air is thin, and the soil yields no harvest. Every planet we visit remains dead.
This is not a physical death, nor the finality of existential cessation, but a death of potential, of growth. It is the realization that those we once thought vibrant have remained untouched by the currents of time, unchanged by the flux of experience. In these moments, we confront the stillness of their being and the immobility of their thought. The life we anticipated finding in their presence is a mirage, a projection of our desire for meaning and connection.
Roland Barthes spoke of the “death of the author,” suggesting that the interpretation of a text lies in the hands of the reader, not its creator. In the same vein, we might be complicit in these lifeless encounters. As the readers of others’ lives, we impose narratives upon them, expecting evolution, change, and enlightenment. When we find none, when the text of their existence remains unaltered, we are confronted with our disillusionment. It is we who have authored the expectation of their transformation, and it is we who must reckon with their inertia.
In his reflections on seeing, John Berger reminds us that “the relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.” When we meet those from our past, what we see is coloured by the knowledge we have since acquired—the awareness of our becoming, our transformations. We have journeyed and changed and look to others to affirm our evolution. But what if they are blind to their potential? What if the world remains flat to them and the stars are fixed in the sky?
To encounter these static souls is to confront the possibility that they are always dead. It is to acknowledge that not all who breathe are alive in the truest sense. Some are mere echoes, reverberating in the chambers of our memory, lacking substance in the present. They are the shadows on the cave wall, the ghosts of what might have been unanimated by the light of experience.
Thus, every planet we visit remains dead, not because they have failed us, but because they have remained themselves. They are the fixed points around which we orbit, measuring the progress of our voyage through the contrast of their stasis. In this realization lies the paradox of human connection: to see others is to acknowledge their limitations, and in doing so, we come to see ourselves more fully. The death we observe in others reflects the death we fear in ourselves—the death of growth, change, and the capacity to become more than we are.
To leave a planet behind, then, is not an act of abandonment but of survival. It is to recognize the necessity of moving forward and finding those rare celestial bodies where life does flourish, the soil is fertile, and the air is filled with possibility. Only in these living encounters can we continue to evolve, learn, and truly inhabit the brief span of our years.
