For Podcast #165, we’re thrilled to bring you the live recording of F-ON’s opening set from this year’s Paral.lel Festival. 

Paral.lel was, for us, the most nourishing of soul food. Set in the spectacular, breath-taking mountains two-hours north of Barcelona, deep green tree-covered mountains enclosed the dancefloor, an endless stretch of sky reached overhead, a beautiful sound system ensured the frequencies permeated, engulfing us in their warm embrace, and a crowd of beautiful, like-minded souls came together, surrendering to the rhythms and grooves gifted to us by an impressive line-up of talent over 2.5 days.

Magic is almost inevitable when people are united by their shared, deep devotion to music. Throw in nature in its rawest, awe-inspiring form, and of course the music itself delivered with such passion and attentiveness, and you have very raw and real energetic alignment which naturally culminates in countless memorable moments. And it was indeed a weekend of magical moments - where the shadows of clouds sweeping across a canvass of trees aligning the slopes were our only reminder that life and time moved on while we lost ourselves in the mountains.

Esteemed DJ, producer and promoter from Madrid, F-ON (aka Alfonso Pomeda) was on the festival’s opening duties on Friday afternoon, ensuring the warmest of welcomes to the Paral.lel community as they arrived on site. And indeed, his set was as warm and inviting as his smile; deep and down-tempo, with sultry grooves and long, steady, alluring mixes; frequencies gently reverberating off the mountains and trees surrounding us, reaching out and inviting us in. What better way to kick-start a very special weekend celebrating the music we love.

On the 5th Day Podcast #165 - F-ON (live rec. Paral.lel Festival 2022)

Samuel, born in and based in Amsterdam has been involved in the techno scene for several years. The Dutch DJ joined Monument first as a writer in 2017, which he was eager to do due to his increased passion for techno and ambient music over the years. Not much later he also picked up the mantle of MNMT’s head of podcast during 2018-2020. Sam performed his very first DJ gig In June of 2019 at MNMT Festival, with a 2-hour melancholic ambient mix as the opening of the final day of the festival, to which he was overwhelmed with all the positive feedback. This motivated him to focus more and more on his development as a DJ. What followed were gigs in various countries in Asia, Europe and also United States throughout 2019 and early 2020. After a bit of a break during the pandemic he’s glad be able to get back into playing gigs.

Alexander Berg and Robin Jonsson – best known by their monikers Dorisburg (@alexanderberg) and @kalawila – have been friends for a decade but collaborators for barely a moment. What has emerged so far from this is quite something: rhythmic yet immersive, capricious yet lucid, Avancera is the electronic sound of tomorrow.

Driven to create music that combines their two unique spheres of inspiration, yet exists in a single, almost-mythical universe, Avancera demonstrates what can result when virtuoso visions collide, combine, and ultimately synchronise.

This very special Patterns of Perception 52 precedes Avancera’s world-first performance at Patterns of Perception on 28 June at OHM Berlin.

There’s a dashboard with multi-colored indicators and switches in front of you. The signal lights of the take-off approvingly instruct the never-ending journey in space and time of musical styles.

We fill the electronic panorama with a variety of sound scenes. Here dense rhythms are in harmony with airy motifs, bright tones are idyllically intertwined with the twilight side of complex forms, which are replaced by worldly nature, and ecstatic grooves are drowned in the abyss of transcendental contemplation.

This is a space lunch.

MNMT 252: Vand

Many of you will need no introduction to the music of Primal Code, the Italian duo who have conjured up a storm of stunning releases on labels such as Hypnus, The Gods Planet, and Konstrukt in relatively short order. We first connected over their gorgeous, then-unreleased track "Morgana," and since then it's been a pleasure watching them develop their natural and introspective sound, each release as polished and inspiring as the last. I'm so happy to welcome them to the podcast and what they've sent is pure delight, an emerald  evocation of sun-pierced woods and the clearing of the morning mist. Enjoy!
