On revient vous régaler pour l’heure du goûter avec notre nouveau single ‘Collation’. Ce nouveau titre se veut comme un petit amuse-oreille avant la sortie de notre très prochain EP 'Tout va'. Collation se déguste entre deux repas, si possible en bonne compagnie. Le morceau se veut plutôt ironique et léger, avec une place belle à la voix qui siège au dessus de l’instrumentale telle une chouquette sur une une pile de viennoiseries toutes chaudes.

It's teatime and we're back to delight you with our new single, 'Collation'. This new track serves as a sweet little ear-treat before the release of our forthcoming EP. 'Collation' is best savored between meals, preferably in good company. The song is imbued with irony and lightness, with the voice taking pride of place, perched above the instrumental like a delicate chouquette atop a stack of warm, freshly baked pastries.

Hailing from Chicago and Melbourne, Australia respectively, Kevin Pariso and Joel Witenberg together make up the Brooklyn duo, Surf Rock is Dead. Embodying the beachiness of their namesake's genre through a new wave filter, the band have spent the last two years crafting an infectious brand of dream-pop in the vein of Diiv, Day Wave, and Beach Fossils.

“The phrase ‘we have no friends’ is a running joke and half-truth between the band.” Says Pariso about the namesake of the EP. “When we formed the project we would spend late weekend nights jamming and writing music instead of spending it out with friends. Putting time into a creative project definitely can hamper your social life but the idea is that the fruit it bears will be worth the sacrifices.” 

Those sacrifices paid off when the band went to record, using music as a way to escape the day-to-day grind and hot NYC summers. Ultimately, the duo was able to build off each other from similar shared experiences to turn song and lyric ideas into the anthemic dream-pop of the five-song EP.

‘We Have No Friends?’ will be released October 6th on both vinyl, and digital formats. Vinyl versions include their debut 'SRiD' EP on the b-side.

"The debut album from this Atlanta-based five-piece is certainly not easy to pigeonhole. Shifting seamlessly from taut post-punk to lush 60s balladry, and starry-eyed guitar pop to moody guitar squall, VPI Harmony is the sound of a band meticulously studied in their influences, and unafraid to expand, combine and re-imagine the sounds of their musical loves into their own signature package. Take for instance the way album opener “Dark Flow”, whose lilting guitar notes and stately drum rolls drifts with floaty falsettos straight into the tightly wound, breathy lead single “Pathos y Lagrimas”, replete with glossy guitars and an air of sexy mystery. Or the way in which “Promise Me” switches from peppy, Sarah Records jangle into dreamy girl-group heartbreak in under a minute. 

Moving from the loose, lo-fi quality of their debut EP Sweater Weather Forever in 2011, VPI Harmony was recorded, mixed and mastered in-studio at Gary’s Electric in Brooklyn. The upgrade has done wonders for enhancing the band’s sound, and helping to fully realize and emulate their seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of pop production. Fellow Atlantan musician, Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox on his hometown buddies: “Mood Rings rip the captions off the stairs and explode moonlight panels with alcohol and mint. This is not political music. These are not ringtones. There is no mystery man in the plasma tent. The floor tom is the new kick. Don’t forget the scale of mercury.”
