Something of a teen sensation who graduated with honours from the club scene of his Italian hometown of Pavia, Simone Liberali has already hit the charts of Beatport in double quick time and embarked on a release trail that has seen him light dynamite for the likes of Witty Tunes, Zoo Technique and Bad Barbie Records. Still only 19 years old and able to namedrop some of the best in the business after sharing deck space with DJ Sneak, The Martinez Brothers and Hot Since 82, Liberali makes Clarisse his next port of call for the Swiss labels opening release of 2015.

With some spiky party-starting lyrics directing the strains of rush hour traffic and dub percussions, Liberali delivers Swan with a bustling bassline chug thats hard to get away from once you first feel it jumping and pumping in your direction. Much like the bird in question, Liberali makes easy the execution of feet working overtime while keeping cool up top. Equal parts funky and fearless.

Clarisses ever-ready strike-force of Mendo and Yvan Genkins remix Swan by catching the night train, rolling out bells, sirens, shunts and a series of alerts signifying that theres a roadblock incoming. Theres a carnival feel to the track, but not one thats awash with bright colours and high fives; Genkins and Mendo prefer to take their loops down a diverted, more devious route along the back of the parade instead.

A rival and compatriot to Swan is Redemption, bearing the same styled bassline as Liberali recognises what foolproof guns he should stick to. This time the powerful bottom end is slung further downwards from a second fortress of funk fulfilment, with an expectant countdown on the break rising above excited chatter and helping shape a groove that can go all night long.

MOOD welcomes Juvenal: a brand new project from long time label affiliate and great friend SKIN. 

Previously spotted with Nicole Moudaber on last summer&#8217;s &#8216;Breed&#8217; EP, and before that &#8216;Someone Like You&#8217;, for this release SKIN takes the reins with her debut sole production… And there&#8217;s nothing juvenile about it whatsoever. 

&#8216;Jungle&#8217; is tailor made for cavernous warehouses; the intro&#8217;s deep drones, bone shaking drums and sheet metal textures gradually build like a cinematic battle scene before the main groove kicks in from the left, sweeping the whole scene sideways. The down-pitched vocals rippling with a demonic edge and a psychedelic whirlwind on the second drop… This will blow minds when dropped at the right time. 

For an even darker, twisted trip into Juvenal&#8217;s mind, dig deeper for &#8216;Why Are You Laughing&#8217;. With a more gradual build and silk synth stabs wrapping themselves around the loose, dark-funk drums, it&#8217;s not until the echoes of chuckles start to curl around the edges that you get a sense of Juvenal&#8217;s barbed groovecraft. Slowly decaying into a paranoid pool of laughter, we&#8217;re whipped out of the sense-blurring confusion with the return of the restrained but heavyweight hook. 

Both laced with the bold, relentless house elements that really united house floors in the US and UK in the early 2000s, these truly are some killer dynamics from a musician who genuinely understands the magic and allure of deep, dark, carnal dance music. We have no doubt Juvenal will return to MOODy shores very very soon
