I have found resilience in the idea that my body is an extension of the Earth’s body (just as the microbes and antibodies that make up the human body are both distinct and integral to human existence) and that my life is an expression of the Earth’s animacy. 
The A-part of this song invites the liberation of our voices, our grief, our action: how do I live in service to our larger Earth body and tend to the wounds of this time? 
The B-part can be reverent, a plea, or a rejoicing:  “let the Earth live!” and may that include all beings suffering in the mass extinction and great unraveling of our times. Let her breathe and have the right to her rainforest lungs and river arteries. Let her grieve and love the heartbreaking beauty of this time. As a zipper song, you can swap in your own words. This lends itself to the work of seeking wholeness: find the words that feel potent, the doors that feel closed and invite them to open.

Holding the Earth

I wrote this song to honor all the stories my body holds, especially around my gender. I wanted to uplift and celebrate that untangling of invisible threads. The threads I've been caught in that I am learning how to see more clearly every day. 

I teach this in community singing circles and invite anyone who sings it to consider their own bodies. What stories hold your body? Where might you direct your attention and curiosity?
