The Bilinda Butchers - Heaven Holds a Place

This is the title track of our July 2015 release 'Know the reason’ EP - available on 7 inch vinyl from Seattle based Jigsaw records. The song is a few years old and lay around for a while before it was recorded in the spring of 2013. The song is based on a chord progression and melody I had but Stephen and I wrote the lyrics together in a true duo kind of matter. I think endless listenings to Big stars first and The Feelies 'Good Earth’ inspired both feel and melody. I remember I came up with the chorus, Stephen added most words of the verses. Stephen came up with the trumpet hook riff and on record it was performed by my sister-in-law Mirjam Pettersson, who also played on our previous EP Technical Heights from 2013. We recorded the foundations of the song in our practice space in Albano and did some overdubs in my living room at Sodermalm Stockholm. I didn’t think so much of it after it was finished, but when I let Chris at Jigsaw hear some songs for a possible release he told me this was the one he liked the best and it was made the ’single’. It's certainly been a very long winter here this year so hearing these relaxed, warm pop songs with lush reverb-drenched vocals and jangling guitars is the perfect antidote. Lyrically reflective and optimistic Jesper and Josefine's voices blend together sweetly with wistful trumpet and organ melodies. The rhythm section supports the songs deftly leaving plenty of room for country-tinged melodies.

The 5 songs on the EP combine familiar elements from bands like the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield through to the Essex Green and Belle and Sebastian but Moon Types add their own style and sound. The production quality is very high and all the songs fit together well. I think it's going to be a good summer, and if it isn't, listen to Don't Let It Bring You Down and Migratory Bird and imagine it was."
