@edavd is the project of multidisciplinary artist Emmanuel David Monteiro. A deep thinker, E Davd brings a theoretical and conceptual lens to his work - if you listen deeply and with intent, you can begin to understand some of the complex ideas that underscore his music. Process driven and creative, E Davd is not bound by genre, rather working with different patterns, rhythms and approaches to sound to explore his connection to, and barriers to ancestry and heritage. Starting out age nine on the congas, playing Cape Verdean and afro music in his dad’s band, E Davd now uses electronic music to explore his own ideas about black music. Now, he uses techno as a mechanism to explore complex themes such as the nexus of nature and technology, Indigenous technologies and afrofuturism. His radio show and soon to be record label ‘Visions of Utopia’ on Nomad Radio also encapsulate these themes, looking toward a utopian society that is not only equal and free from racial violence, but one in which blackness is privileged.  E Davd uses his guest mix on Passing Notes to present a deep excavation into the internet, himself and afrofuturism - expect a sound collage of original works - finished and ‘unfinished’, samples and snippets from afrofuturism documentary ‘The Last Angel of History’. I had a wonderful time talking with E Davd about afrofuturism, ancestry, blackness, black music and more.

We’ve been on a roll lately at Delayed, with the caliber of mixes coming our way steadily raising the bar. Today, we’re thrilled to feature a mix from a familiar name: our friend Malte Schumann, known to many as Caldera, the German producer hailing from Brighton. His production work consistently brings a unique spark, and that same artistry comes through when he takes control of the decks. Some artists refuse to settle into a single genre, and when approached with skill, this can be one of their greatest strengths. @sunjuhargun is based in Thailand and has been bringing all new energy to the Asian scene for more than 20 years. He has Indian heritage and Japanese roots which inform his mystic sound and the music he releases via the the label he co-founded, Siamese Twins Records. As he proved when he played our festival back in summer, he transcends musical and cultural borders to bring everything from, warm and percussive tribal grooves to more psychedelic sounds, acid textures and mind altering techno.

Sunju explains his approach to this week's mix. "I wanted to capture a special memory using records picked up during my trips between Amsterdam and Japan over the past few years. The result is a selection that blends the past, present, and future. As with every mix, I approach things naturally, with spontaneity. Live recordings have a unique energy that you can only feel in person, but sometimes that feeling can get lost when making a mix at home. This here is 60 mins of a raw, spontaneous reflection of friends in my living room, just hitting record and going for it. No filter, no perfection—just creativity with a limited selection.”
