Story
Chaminuka
On the vast plains of Zimbabwe, when drums still beat to the pulse of the earth and ancestors walked invisibly among men, Chaminuka was born, a child destined to hear what others could not. From a young age, it was said that the winds whispered secrets to him and that the river's waters revealed visions of the future.
In time, Chaminuka became a prophet and protector of his people. His eyes seemed to reflect both heaven and earth, and his voice resonated like an echo of the spirits. When crops were threatened by drought, he invoked rain with chants that blended the human and the divine. When enemies lurked, he warned his people before the first spear gleamed in the sun.
It is said that Chaminuka could speak with the spirits of the ancestors, who entrusted him with counsel and warnings. Thus, he guided his people not only with earthly wisdom but with the unseen strength of those who had departed. His power was not one of war, but of harmony and foresight... he taught that true defense lay in the unity of the people and respect for the land.
But his fate was not without tragedy. Some feared his power, others envied him. In a time of tension, Chaminuka was betrayed and murdered. Yet, legend says that his spirit never left Zimbabwe. He became an invisible lion, watching over the hills and fields, roaring in the dreams of those who sought justice. To this day, many believe that Chaminuka continues to protect his people, reminding them that the greatest strength lies not in the sword, but in vision and the connection to the eternal.

Nestled deep in the beautiful Kootenay mountains of Western Canada lies the home of Moontricks, a duo whose timeless sound captures the essence of their rugged roots. Combining their love of folk, blues, and electronic music, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman are blazing their own trail, merging musical worlds previously unacquainted and capturing audiences along the way.

Since connecting in their rural hometown through a shared love of music, the pair’s chemistry was instantly apparent. With Gurley at the production helm and Rodman on songwriting and vocals, they’ve birthed an authentically raw and seductive sound infusing grassroots blues, wistful soul, and gritty, boot­stomping bass. Their breakout organic hit “Home” has surpassed 1 million streams and their music is frequently licensed for film and television.

Once a best­kept secret in Canada's festival circuit, Moontricks is now taking their sound worldwide. Feeling just as at home on an electronic festival stage one weekend and a folk festival the next, their spirited live performances feature an assemblage of guitar, keys, banjo, and vocals atop stunning original productions. Their touring schedule has seen them play across North America and Australia with stops at major festivals like Lightning In A Bottle, Rainbow Serpent, and Shambhala Music Festival ­ where they’ve become fan favourites, playing every year since their debut in 2013.
