... and here we are, at the end of the Xerrox series. For those who have been all along on the ride, the fifth and final volume concludes an incredible journey which Alva Noto started back in 2007, with the exploration between the original and the copy, the distinction between the two in the analogue and digital world, and the context which each one holds. This was before the concept of non-fungible tokens designed to represent proof of authenticity for the original [digital] art, music, and collectables. Nearly two decades in the making, the five albums capture Carsten Nicolai's evolving philosophy around the method and the system. "The copying process is now less visible through software manipulation; rather, it unfolds as the artist describes melodic and acoustic images that are then manipulated, copied, and transformed into new patterns during composition." I've covered Vol. 2, Vol. 3, and Vol 4 in detail, in the last of which I have predicted that this fifth and final volume will come out in 2025. So, I am delighted and a little sad to feature this exclusive premiere of a track from the final entry as the voyage approached dissolution. This is an emotional experience filled with moments of melancholy and the bittersweet feelings of goodbye, not the least of which are influenced by the connection to the passing of Ryuichi Sakamoto, who was a fan of this series.

eth_mnd’s MMMXXV Time Dilation lives up to its name for Greyscale's 141st release of the Mood Series. The EP unfolds like a meditation on the distortion of time and perception, merging fast-moving atmospheres with grounded rhythms. South Africa's eth_mnd crafts a sonic landscape where temporal boundaries blur and dissolve, pulling the listener into a dense, contemplative space that feels suspended between ancient ritual and future unknown. Opening track 'Anomalous Dimention, Ancient Wisdom Of Ye' has layers of deep ambience. There is grit in its texture but also a strange serenity. The brisk sonic currents create motion, while the low tones anchor the experience in something heavier and more eternal. Field recordings of children playing rise unexpectedly through the haze, adding a human element rarely heard in this genre and contributing to the sense of memory drifting through altered time. 'Planetary Expanse, Reconfiguration Of Thy Essence' elevates the album’s introspective mood. A rising warm tone gradually spreads like light over a frozen landscape. The central melody looms with purpose, supported by a heavy beat and crystalline production. Cold yet full of life, the track evokes vast solitude and a sublime sense of scale. The closing track 'Cosmic Transcendental Heteroclite, Odyssey To Thy Provenance' serves as a culmination. It threads the sonic language of the earlier pieces into a more rhythmically pronounced journey. The rhythm is slow but determined, like a pulse at the edge of perception. This is the soundtrack to observing stars in motion and understanding that their light is older than your lifetime. MMMXXV Time Dilation stretches and bends, creating an experience that feels entirely current.

[moosdohmen] is a producer of live modular dubs and drones. He combines dub, lo-fi ambient and drone elements to create his own blend. He performs with a 7U modular setup, Torso T1/S4, guitar FX pedals, and Elektron Syntakt and Pulsar 23 analog drum machines.

Since 2023 he has done modular livesets at Paradiso Amsterdam, Vondelbunker, Ruigoord, OT301, Modulation Utrecht, Dutch Modular Fest, Doka Amsterdam, Waveforms, Ruis Festival (with FreakedMusic), ElektrikCafe Arnhem, Zeeplab, POM Eindhoven, and in Berlin and Cologne, Germany. Together with Paul Alstein he did  live ambient dub sets in Amersfoort and Zeeplab. In the past few years he has done live streams for New York Modular Society, Colorado Modular Synth Society, and Modular World. He also did podcasts for the Ambient Vault and Data Cult Audio series.

His latest releases are on BandCamp and all streaming platforms.
