It’s fair to say that Deformer and FFF are the undisputed kings of Dutch Hardcore Jungle. Not only are they pioneers making noise since the early days, but they never stopped putting out records! The strange thing is though, that both artists are based in the same city and shared many stages for years, but it was just recently that that they joined forces on record. With PRSPCT’s incredible ’15 year anniversary’ release, Deformer and FFF delivered the retro future classic ‘20th Century Jungle’. After receiving raving reviews and the track destroying parties worldwide, both artists decided to produce an e.p. cleverly titled: ‘deFFFormer’. The result? A monstrous record that will throw you right back to the roots of the deepest jungle!

The A side kicks off with two amen heavy tracks, classic Jungle with an upgrade. B1 holds a huge surprise as this breakbeat track features the vocals of Shaydie (of DJ Paul Elstak fame). Her first appearance in years! This is a contemporary nineties anthem for sure! B2 turns dancehall into deathhall as long time Deformer collaborator Scapu-Lox (Voodoom) lays down his chanting vocals to eventually make the track rinse out in breakbeat mayhem.

If you witnessed the warehouse raves in the 90’s then this will definitely bring out the over-energetic kid in you. If your parents produced you at a later time, then this is your chance to experience the rave heydays. Either way, you will lose your mind!

“Sparkin’ Madizm”  hits deeper into Tech Step territory, mixing Channel Live and KRS ONE’s  seminal 1995 hit with intercutting 2 Step and smashing Amen patterns, crunching dreamlike Intalex Vox, all riding over huge uplifting resse bass.

Astrophonica maintain pace in 2020 as Philip D Kick returns to the label with the 6 track “As We Continue”. Following 2018’s “Pathways” Jim Coles aka Om Unit aka Philip D Kick adds some shine and sparkle to his already near perfect and persistent formula. Coles remains dedicated to blurring the lines and joining the dots. As we continue . . .

‘Drips’ sets the pace and opens the flood gates with a flowing groove and lingering bass womps like condensation off a low ceiling. ‘160909313’ steamrolls through with a constant Turbo drum machine drive accelerated by a non stop rolling bass riff. The doors are well and truly blown off in ‘Funk 160’ as a planet rocking breakbeat and infectious chord stabs set the pace with confidence and class. Balmy pads caress a lazy groove in ‘Summer Moods’ and conjure feelings of long evenings and ever lasting sunsets. The Riviera is all bit crushed pads and elite level breakbeat science while you enjoy the passing vistas. ’Clouds’ brings this episode to a close with a smooth glide through the stratosphere and beyond with 4/4 kicks and luscious bass arp.

'This record for me reflects the ongoing conversation between cultures and styles where jungle meets footwork meets techno, 3 cultures that share more in common than perhaps people realise, and for me this is more of a in-depth exploration for example of sonic tropes more prevalent in the world of Detroit techno than other previous records. 'Clouds' and '160909313' for example being somewhat of an homage to Detroit, the birthplace of techno, yet another black music that changed the world.' - Philip D Kick / Om Unit

We are beyond excited to have Cali bass queen KOZEE , an absolute legend amongst footwork  and jungle community and beyond, serving the heat on mix 83! Her forward-thinking productions have caught the eyes of like-minded imprints like Moveltraxx, Four40 Records, Sounds of Sumo, and Audio Doughnuts. Not only was she the first American female DJ to spin at Croatia’s Dimensions Festival in 2012, but she’s continued to represent her unique take one electronic music everywhere from BBC 1Xtra and Rinse FM to Radar Radio. Her original
productions in the 2010s have turned heads; taking her years of record collecting and drive to push the boundaries of genre and sound have found Kozee in an intriguing spot. It’s one of those areas where you might not have a definitive name for what she’s doing yet, but who knows, maybe she will coin a term for it in the near future that will turn into an entirely new approach.
