Airfield Broadcasts brings massive, spatialized symphonies involving hundreds of professional, student and amateur musicians, including orchestras, bands, and experimental new music groups to perform on the grounds former airfields. The pieces interpret and celebrates the site, allowing listeners to draw their own meaning and experience. Airfield Broadcasts composer Lisa Bielawa hopes that the projects will have a palpable and sustainable impact on the cities, saying “I would like to see this project bring about new partnerships, new vitality and new relationships between arts and civic institutions, between different generations and economic strata, between arts or music lovers and totally non-arts-identified park-goers enjoying surprise encounter with music as a 'happening' in the middle of their familiar and beloved city.”

Tempelhof Broadcast was held in May 2013 on Tempelhof Airfield in Berlin. Crissy Broadcast is scheduled for October 2013 on Crissy Field in San Francisco.
