Eons ago I used to see that phrase popping up everywhere in graffiti around the Bay Area. Of course music can overwhelm and overpower and posses our nervous systems better than any other drug: but I like to think about this in the sense of a cultural mindset, not just a literal proclamation that we can get high on music. For me, it means that music can be medicinal, and also significant to our lives as a shapeshifting force for culture, identity & community. As members of a musical community, you all have the chance to prioritize the health & safety of your nervous systems, and to treasure your bodies & their well being, instead of being careless, reckless, or harmful with such precious cargo. To me this song is about magic more than anything, and creating it with LUZCID was a joy and a pleasure. I also want to thank Katrina again for the vocals: we love your voice :)

"The beginning of a new year always brings exciting energy.  As new goals, inspirations, and opportunities come flooding in, we have to be ready to hop up on the board and ride the wave.  A fresh start can be scary because of the uncertainty that lies ahead, but this uncertainty can also give us the power to go anywhere we want!

A Funky Fresh Start ~ I took this opportunity to showcase some of my newest productions that I’m super excited about, as well as some old funky favorites that inspire me to reset my creative mind and body.  I started with a remix I just made of Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It?”  because I think the vibe of this song feels like a comfortable "fresh start blanket", and I think one of the most important/difficult aspects of a “Fresh Start” is being comfortable with it.  The trajectory of the mix starts light and funky but eventually finds home in a heavier (but still silly) House and Breaks realm.  I did this to parallel the idea of easing into a new lifestyle, where the beginning is a mixture of new ideas and old inspirations, but as those things meld together we start to gain confidence in our new journey and eventually find a new “home” within.  The last few songs in the mix are some of my favorite original tracks I’ve made yet – they feel like my new “home” as a producer, and I’m very excited to continue this “Fresh Start”.
