Rio de Janeiro-based label, Onda Boa, embarks on a sonic journey to Brazil’s North East for inspiration with their fourth release, "Faraó Divindade do Egito." Joutro Mundo reinterprets one of Brazil’s earliest samba-reggae tunes — a track that achieved the feat of selling over a hundred thousand copies upon its initial release, marking a significant milestone for Bahian music — while remaining faithful to the label’s "cosmitropical" sound that defined Onda Boa’s initial three releases.

Originally recorded by axé legend (and current Brazilian Minister of Culture) Margareth Menezes, "Faraó Divindade do Egito" swiftly became a Bahian carnival anthem upon its debut in 1987. Joutro Mundo transforms this classic into a deep cosmic journey that still remains rooted in the song's axé origins. The vocals, delivered enchantingly by Faustão, a prominent vocalist from Salvador, sing of the profound connection between ancient Egypt and the sun-soaked cobblestone streets of Pelourinho, Salvador Bahia's historic district with deep African roots. This lovingly crafted update will resonate just as powerfully on late-night dancefloors as it will at some Balearic beach bar off the coast of Salvador.

Keeping the project authentically Bahian, Onda Boa wisely enlists the talents of Bahia Boogie and Mareh Music mainstay, Processman, for the remix. The seasoned producer, hailing from the same region as Margareth Menezes, provides an authentic connection from the origins of axé music to contemporary Afro-Brazilian electronic beats. His remix transforms the track into a mid-tempo axé house track that pays homage to the original's spirit. Alongside the traditional timbres found in axé music, the familiar melody of the song unfolds via an analog synth line that gradually evolves into more acidic territory as the track progresses.

Undoubtedly, this is celebratory music set to elevate the dancefloor with its cosmic carnival vibe. And, regardless of whether you speak Portuguese, this is a musical journey that connects you to something deeper. This is Brazilian future roots dance music — an auditory offering fit for a Pharaoh.

For this ReVision, I chose an iconic song that has had a great influence on me and my artwork throughout my lifetime. Featuring a west coast-style songwriting balladry, their sound was something I immediately connected with from the very first time I heard “Joy And Pain” on the radio as a child.

Often referred to as the “Black Grateful Dead” for their loyal cross-generational fanbase, Maze was formed in San Francisco, California in the late 70s, fronted by the Philly-raised songwriter and former gospel singer, Frankie Beverly.

Originally called Raw Soul, the group changed their name to Maze upon the recommendation of Beverly’s mentor—as well as a major catalyst for their meteoric ascension in popularity—Marvin Gaye.

Featuring conventional instrumentation of this era for an R&B ensemble—Electric Bass, Guitar, and Fender Rhodes, Oberheim OB-X brass—including innovative use of the—then-new—Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm Drum Machine.

For as much as they have written and recorded timeless songs and records, you really have not fully experienced their spiritual mastery until you've seen Maze Feat. Frankie Beverly live in concert.

Summer is the hottest season of the year, especially here on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean where we are bathed by this sea that refreshes us. To sound this moment, we bring the EP "Atlântico" with sounds of strong Brazilian influence, mixed with disco, house and minimal. With percussion elements naturally found in styles such as samba, the goal of mixing these timbres with electronic music is to bring our own identity to the electronic scene with increasing strength. "Atlântico" is signed by producer @dioncastro from Florianópolis - SC with 3 original tracks including a remix by producer @kikadeeke from Balneário Camboriú - SC.

Visual artist Gabriel Engster with his project @ a.la.gabs.art signs the third cover of his new series that he has been producing in partnership with Bioma, based on imagery references of cacti and body parts as inspiration for the drawings, for then abstract them into multiple experimental graphic art compositions correlated to the sounds of each release.
