Dam Swindle's Wanderist returns to Aus Music with club-ready three tracker, Imagine 

The Dutchman's third EP for the label blends breakbeats and house rhythms into fulsome electronic soundscapes  

Wanderist is the solo project of Maarten Smeets, half of the influential Dam Swindle duo. With that project and their Heist Recordings label, Smeets has spent the last decade-plus touring the world's best clubs and festivals and cooking up timeless house sounds across a wide spectrum of sub-genres. Earlier this year, they dropped their third full-length Open, which was a personal deep dive into a range of melancholic, ethereal sounds that often veered away from the dance floor and into lush home-listening. 

This new EP finds Smeets back in club mode and tapping into personal inspirations, from dreamy electro to dubby techno. Following his previous two outings on this label in 2020 and 2021 - which picked up support across the board from tastemakers like Len Faki, Anastasia Kristensen, Josh Wink and Luke Slater plus plays on BBC Radio 1, Ibiza Sonica and many more - he taps into fresh rhythms and a futuristic energy that moves body and mind. 

Opener 'Imagine' has shimmering synth work bringing scale to crisp, well-programmed broken beats. Careful, tender synth sequences layer in unresolved suspense while refracted vocal fragments and glitchy textures push into an otherworldly space. 'Wait' is a speedy cut built on deft but kinetic broken beats with a free-roaming bassline leading up to the stars. It's an immersive sound with lush layers of synths and cascading arps all dragging you into their orbit. 'Just a Groove' maintains the momentum with sparkling chords and urgent, cantering drums. Progressive melodies glow while the most subtle of trance chords hint at old school hands-in-the-air euphoria.

VENN is the freshly spawned label from Seoul-based DJ Botermelk. The debut EP is delivered from the man himself, with 3 tuff club-ready original mixes and an introspective remix from Bristolian wizard 'Boulderhead' making up the fabric of the record. Since relocating to Seoul from London over a decade ago, DJ Botermelk is an ever present figure in the Seoul underground, producing and DJing but also throwing parties under the VENN brand and exposing the local scene to some wicked artists: including Baldo, DJ Pipe and DJ Life, Aldonna and more. Now expanding VENN into label territories, it's time for the imprint to firmly stamp its authority on the international scene.

B1, 'Rearview' diverts the vibe of the flip of the record into a chamber of peak-time techiness, issuing a warning that this is a producer and label that can do both the minimal and maximal. Rearview is a stompy weapon with wicked drum-play. The bruising kick is matched with steppy snares and simmering hats, as rumbling breaks announce themselves mid-way to pack out the spaces and increase the ruggedness of the beats. As PR.A.DO gears up for our next Festival Não Existe, an EP feels essential to set the mood. The full release arrives on Gop Tun Records this October 10.

Pr.a.do is an absolute master of unexpected perspective. Just when the listener settles into an understanding, this producer—one of the most celebrated names in the new Brazilian scene—grabs the handbrake (while the car is clearly moving at full speed) to reveal a thrilling alternative path.

His history is unique: his foundational influences came directly from his family, specifically DJs Persival and Gustavo Balleste. Since launching his career in 2018, Pr.a.do has consistently demonstrated his genius with acclaimed releases on labels like DSRPTV, Banana Gold , U’re Guay Records, and Nug-Net, not to mention his own successful label and collective, Subliminar Records.

His return to Gop Tun Records is a huge cause for celebration. After all, his 2022 EP, Rea$ons, remains a high-water mark in our discography, and any new venture from this polymath warrants an instant holiday proclamation. Aptly titled “Déjà Vu,” this new collection is built on the same deep, foundational elements of the 90s industrial dance, where driving Analog and FM synths, romplers and old sample CD’s meets the best sweaty dance floor.

Built using classic gear like the SH-101, Pro-One, and TR-808, this is future-focused electro rooted in Detroit funk, NYC attitude, and analog precision. It’s a new compilation celebrating the British independent dance music scene of the early 90s, featuring a mix of old and new tracks from old and new artists.

It features 26 exclusive tracks from many pioneers who changed things forever and continue to move forward. 
It packs a heavy line up with contributions from members of LFO, Humanoid, Future Sound Of London, μ-Ziq and Altern8 and other acts such as Konx-Om-Pax, Todd Osborn, Wisp. It also futures the first ever music to be released by Steve Davis (the snooker player turned experimental music DJ) under the name Thundermuscle. 

The physical version is a double CD in a back-to-back box. This in itself is a homage to the design style of significant compilations such as Deep Heat. CD 1 is a nod to house/acid/techno and CD 2 has a tendency towards breakbeat/rave.
