Ah, Byron, Byron, Byron—what can we say? We're absolutely enamoured with this guy's music. And, we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome him into our family on Low Recordings.

We are back with our second vinyl release, featuring Byron's "Love 4 Music." This 4-track EP is a celebration of love, with Side A and Side B showcasing two distinct styles where Byron truly shines. Side A delivers the club hits, while Side B envelops us in a soulful/R&B/deep house vibe.

Kicking off Side A is "Creepin' With U." The track begins with haunting chords that exude an eerie and raw vibe, swiftly leading into a thumping, club-certified kick drum. As the song progresses, a hint of nostalgia from the lo-fi days creeps in, complemented by vocal samples that add to the eerie atmosphere. Yes, it's eerie, but it's also robust and captivating—perfect for enticing bodies to move on a warehouse dance floor.

Next up is "Work That Girl (Tribal Mix)," the heavyweight of the four, tailor-made for the club/warehouse scene. The track starts with the clicking and clacking of hats and snares, Byron's vocals weaving in and out of the mix. The lyrics are crafted for a sweaty night of dancing, and as the kicks thump in, the energy rises. Byron's trademark chords seamlessly ooze into the mix, uniting our bodies with the song. Acid-sounding notes eventually lead us in and out of the groove—a solid club anthem.

Flipping over to Side B, we're greeted by "Inner Visions," where Byron slows things down and takes us in a different direction. A classic synth line initiates the track with a smooth kick, creating an airy vibe that melds perfectly with its melody. As the song grooves, Byron's soulful vocals pierce through, infusing warmth into his words. The warmth persists as the song progresses, with his voice echoing slightly more dissonance, leaving us with a proper vision for the closing track.

Closing out the EP, Byron guides us with a vision for a fun night in "Make Me Feel." Deep with a touch of R&B, the song exudes warmth and is all about feeling good with the person who got you through the night. Byron's sultry voice sits perfectly on the track as the basslines guide us through. His playful nature keeps things light and fun, rounding off the EP on a high note.

PREMIERE: Byron The Aquarius - Inner Visions [Low Recordings]

Zopelar returns to Tartelet with Ritmo Freak, an electric eight-track album from the beating heart of the Brazilian underground, out May 10.

In a flurry of madcap sampling pitched towards the heat of the night, Pedro Zopelar builds on the premise of his 2022 electro-funk love letter Charme, shifting his approach towards a particular 90s flair and a method with a specific end result.

Ritmo Freak took root in studio experiments for a momentous — and rare — live set at São Paulo festival Não Existe in 2023, where Zopelar was caught up in one of those right-place, right-time moments we carry with us through life. As he explains himself:

“This album is dedicated to freaky club culture. While I was playing at the festival there was a crazy tropical storm outside and the room was packed with the freakiest crowd. I've tried hard to immortalize that feeling on this record."

With the intended energy in mind, Zopelar focused on a particular mode of production centred around 12-bit sampling from his ample record collection.

Considering his background as a trained pianist, here his musical instincts are forced to work within the limitations of short, snappy cuts from dusty 12”s. The lo-fi sound sources and the resourceful ways Zopelar works them gives the record an unmistakable old-skool flavour which he applies to forthright house, techno and electro funk rhythms, always taking care to draw out the soul of the music.

The stylistic touchstones flow past thick and fast on Ritmo Freak. From the amped up fierceness of the title track with its gaudy, cut n’ paste, vintage techno flavour to the effervescent electro funk of ‘Gabriellinha’s Boogie’ on to the surreal Balearic inversion of ‘Distraction’, this is a high-velocity, endlessly charming record bursting with the musicality Zopelar has made his name on.

As the driving force behind many warehouse parties in São Paulo, Zopelar has been immersed in club culture for a long time, and his distinctive catalogue of jazz, funk, acid and techno has graced highly respected labels like Apron, Selva Discos and Mother Tongue. Throughout, he’s displayed an affinity for the tangled roots of the groove with an open-eared, big-hearted sound. That’s what comes through on Ritmo Freak — a record as infectious as it is well- informed.

Craft Music's Good For Dance series continues with its second instalment and this one has been curated by none other than DJ Craft himself. Joining him are talented pals Schmoltz, Bogdan Ra, Romain FX, and Outra, also known as Joutro Mundo. These deep diggers are celebrated for their prowess in unearthing hidden gems and transforming them into dancefloor anthems and that's what they do here as each artist brings a unique flavour to the mix. Schmoltz's 'Luv The States' is a peak-time percussive disco jam, Bogdan Ra brings some slap-funk drums and glossy Italo synths and 'Tell Me Why' has crunchy drums and jagged synth stabs before a camp closer in 'Colosso'.

Caju Sessions arrives refreshing Cocada Music's catalog, with that sweet and at the same time acidic touch as promised by the fruit itself. The tropicality present in the project formed by Ágatha Prado (Agrabah) It is Caio Schmitz, reflects the influences of Disco and House Music that set the tone of the duo's first EP, called Breakfast. The debut features two original tracks that include 'Saquarema' and title track, as well as a remix of 'Breakfast' signed by the Chilean duo Aerobica. 'Breakfast' presents a smooth journey through the shades of House Music, bringing an engaging atmosphere between the synth stabs and the acid cuts of the arrangement. The drums built based on the elements of the classic 909, raise the energy of the track that can fit perfectly into a warm up, or even in peak time of the night. The track also comes accompanied by a remix signed by Aeróbica, the Chilean project formed by Nico Castro and Pepo Fernandez who catch the attention of the Latin American scene with his parties and original productions. The remix presents an even more energetic approach to 'Breakfast', under the influences of old school House. Completing the EP, 'Saquarema' it's the icing on the cake. Fruit of the collab between Caju Sessions and the multi-instrumentalist Alonso Figueroa, 'Saquarema' dives into the seas of Disco Music with warm timbres and a lot of groove, with emphasis on the brass and piano lines that add up in a harmonious and dancing way throughout the track.

Boston staple Nick Minieri delivers two tracks that showcase Minieri’s love of swinging and sampling on the “L8 Nite Keys” EP. Originating as a snowy jam session with fellow Bostonian GMGN on hardware synths, the title track was chopped, re-sequenced and re-imagined by Minieri multiple times. The best attempt presented here, “L8 Nite Keys” explores the mature side of house with soulful vocal chops cut in UK Garage fashion. On the flip, Minieri combines dub-delayed synths, a swinging arpeggio, and a timeless Korg M1 bass patch to form “Pixel Perfect.” Crafted in the cold of winter, its carefree tropes pull you straight into spring, summer, and beyond.
