Tresor’s long-standing connection to Detroit continues with Black Majik - the solo EP debut from Ann-Marie Teasley aka The AM (@amx313), one of the Motor City’s newest techno ambassadors.

Over four tracks the EP takes you on an odyssey of sorts, traversing the big three of Detroit’s electronic music history: Funk, Electro, and Techno

Black Majik, the title track sets us off with a groove bringing to mind a car ride through the city as the sun sets; the looping yet subtly-changing beats reminiscent of road markings and scenery that flit past on our journey, the vocals acting as the road signs that keeps us on our route.

Our next stop is On Joy Road, an Electro-influenced track named after the long, dual-carriageway street that connects the centre of Detroit to Nankin Lake and the enclaves on the city’s west side. Of this personal favourite from the EP The AM says, “Classic electro has never gone out of style in Detroit, and if it's hot outside, or you're at a cookout you're going to hear some form of electro, especially on Joy Road…infamous for its drag races. It can be a beautiful street by day, but it can turn very sinister at night which also influenced the writing of this track.” Third track, Shadow Werk, continues our drive into the night with an all-pistons-firing techno track recalling classic Detroit-Berlin axis tracks like UR’s Punisher or Joey Beltram’s Ten Four.

Our tour comes to an end as we are joined by fellow Detroiter’s Scan7 who turbo-charge Shadow Werk with a remix that adds accelerating trance-induction arpeggios evocative of Techno’s earliest beginnings in Italo Disco and tracks like Number of Names seminal Shari Vari.

As with all releases during Tresor’s 30th anniversary celebrations the artwork is a photograph of significance to the artist; for a release so rooted in its origins, both in terms of genre and theme, it is only fitting that The AM chose an image of Mack & Bellevue, an unassuming brick building disguising a venue that was integral to the city’s underground Techno scene at the turn of the millennium.

Now it's finally time to uncover the first release of Artaphine Records. Here, two worlds collide creating various shapes in between. On one hand, we have Tom Place, who is more known for his breakbeat excursions on Childsplay and Fly By Night, while Clotur takes more of a dive into the deep and groovy style of techno that resulted in releases on Counterchange and his own label Warok.

Kicking off the EP with the solo track from Tom Place, setting off with the same pace as 'Tearing Down Your Walls', released on Artaphine’s VA last year. After that, 'Melting Shapes' hits the perfect example of finding balance between artists with different production styles. 

With 'Object Model', the artists take the offbeat excursion while Clotur closes the EP with a 9-minute journey to the various corners of his production skills.

Serbia's @lag and New York's @x-coast go intercontinental with their latest collaboration and high-energy three-tracker 'XL Traxx' EP on @rekids.

On ‘E-Dancer’, the pair mash-up intricate sampling and atmospheric pads over pounding drums. “We met in around ‘96 trading secret codes for Mortal Kombat," says Lag. "In high school, we traded CDs with DAWs and mixes. These tracks were made in only a couple of sessions as we wanted to keep the raw energy intact."

Junction Records artist David Scopes strikes back with an EP full of fresh, inventive breakbeat techno, including an unmissable remix from Bristol’s prodigy Hodge.

The EP opens with Day One, a masterpiece of intricate, organic beats tailored for the clubs. Hodge adds his explosive touch to turn it into a club anthem. On the flipside, Final Boss showcases the darker side of the British producer while the sci-fi ballad Mind Games ends the EP with style.

I met Luis in Gabi and Nestor’s backyard when we we were attending the after hour from the big party we had in Tegucigalpa. He was playing continuously great music that fit the atmosphere and the mood of the last remaining people really well. At one point I wanted to know a song he played and when he revealed me that it was his own song I was sure I wanted to get some of his music to listen to and to play. Weeks later when I was back in Germany and got some of his music, I could not believe in the variety of styles that I was listening to. So the plan was made to release an album and that’s what we have here. A wonderful range of different genres that we bring to you to listen to. Please enjoy.

The esteemed Will & Ink imprint hits the mini milestone of a tenth release by inviting old and new associates to remix some of the label’s still essential back catalogue. The results are as weird and wonderful as you would expect of a label that has always gone its own way.

First up is London producer Mosca, who remixes Yaleesa Hall x Malin’s ‘Second Lucas.’ The Not So Much label boss flips the track into something intense and brutal, with lashings of frazzled industrial synth sounds whipping about above pinging and high impact drums. Italian Chevel—an associate of labels like Stroboscopic Artefacts—then transforms ‘Third Lucas’ into five minutes of otherworldly machine made oddness. Ambient synths are stretched, skewed and filtered, rough textures brush up with the occasional kick sound and the whole thing is gloopy and utterly unique as it suspends you in sound. Then comes Livity Sound star Asusu with a typically hi fidelity re-work of ‘Second Carol.’ Dubby and loopy, metallic and clean, it is a pristine track to get dance floors locked to a groove. Last of all a Stripped mix of ‘First Carol’ mixes minimal dub with freaky sound design and the result is an earworm of a tune that burrows deep into your brain.
