Wednesday Mix – 210609

'The Architecture of Sex' symposium explores some of the many questions and ambiguities inspired by the work Cruising Gezi Park (2021) by Kübra Uzun and Simon(e) van Saarloos. All guests, activist and writer Jeanette Chedda, co-founder and organizer of the Amsterdam Black Women Collective and PhD student Tracian Meikle, master student political and urban sociology Benjamin Asante, queer organizer and researcher René Boer, and researcher and feminist thinker Sophie Lewis, present an essay on one of those questions, which is discussed afterwards. Topics range from ableist architecture and surveillance technologies, to sexual communication and disobedience in the city.

In the audio installation Uzun and Van Saarloos take a walk through Gezi Park, Istanbul. Since the protests in 2013, the park is continuously surrounded by police and few dark spots are left, because trees and shrubs are cut. You can listen to Kübra’s memories, visiting the park as a teenage boy for sex, in the exhibition Refresh Amsterdam and online. In the audio installation, Kübra’s voice interweaves with the sounds of Amsterdam’s Oosterpark, of trees and shrubs being trimmed and cut, which is also lit up by an increasing amount of street lights. Similarly to Istanbul, these “cleaning” measures are portrayed as protection for gay cruisers and white women. The audio installation’s fake grass marks the violence of gentrification, as well as celebrating the queer and drag appreciation of artificial aesthetics. The red light in the installation both refers to the color of nationalism in Turkey and the increasingly gentrified Red-Light district in Amsterdam.

Wim Sonneveld heeft het tweede couplet weggelaten in zijn versie, waardoor velen dit nooit gehoord hebben.

Hundreds of years ago, a planet far away called MiDASTAR, sent two of its finest officers to outer space. The mission was to discover the unknown sounds and voices throughout the entire universe.

During their journey, they discovered several galaxies, traveled through the depths of black holes, and rode on the back of space and time.

The mission was a success, but by an unexpected mechanical failure, their spaceship was trapped in the orbit of planet MZ-1482. This planet called Earth by humans.

Without spare parts, there was no hope to repair their ship and they decided to visit this new place, to expand their knowledge about humans and the sounds of their planet. Although the musician-duo had been formed on the foreign super-planetoid called MiDASTAR, they have found their new base in Amsterdam, Europe.

After Captain Miss Universe and Lt. Planet of the Year had landed, they had to change their entire look and name to be accepted by human eyes. Miss Universe became Sid and Planet of the Year got the name Viktor.

They have managed to create something unique that is astonishing to the earthlings to this day.

Collaboration has always been easy for them; they have both obtained the highest level of musical knowledge.

They came in peace and brought us something special. Something that resonates far beyond music. Something that might make you lose track of space and time. A high-speed drive on an intergalactic highway, that takes you on a journey across the galaxy and helps you understand the most interesting secrets of the universe…

My name Is Candice Cowin. Aka.... DICEx3 (Dice times 3) 
I was born September 3, 1989 in Dallas, Texas at Medical City Dallas Hospital. Grew up in Garland and a little after was moved to Cedar Creek Lake, to Tool, Kemp then Gun Barrel City. I have traveled and lived in Oklahoma City as well as New Orleans at the age of 20 almost until 22. 
I don’t have any studio songs as you can tell with the audio not being that  A GRADE but it’s so fun to me anyways.
I have always enjoyed music and Rap has been my favorite as a kid when I first ever heard the song of Bloodhound Gang and Sir Mix A lot, we should all know who or what songs I am speaking of quote on quote (ha ha ha) I look back and I laugh my A@@ off now. 
I am a writer to lyrics and I have always been drawn to the idea of rapping I do not know why but I have had a passion for it my entire life on the down low! Please, don't tell anyone I might get into trouble so it is to be kept a secret. 
It took me about 30 years of my life plus one to actually want to engage into being myself fully one hundred percent. I have been and was scared of opinions of others, criticism and all the junk that comes with it, you know...? It is kind of hard to be your full self when you have so many dilemmas holding you back you can't grow into yourself with a set back like that.
I have taken the time to grow into my own unique self.
This past year and two has been not a picnic by far for me. My dad and his wife robbed me of my kids through civil court when CPS refused to grant them the authority after three calls. They were mad, they didn't want me to have my kids and had been subconsciously planning it come to find out when they had no reason to take any of their belongings when they finally got the system and conned it to their half for their own selfish benefits for money and to punish me to make me feel like trash. When your kids go to a new home you don't expect for their entire wardrobe to be equipped and two rooms to be furnished and made and plotted for your kids unless it wasn't a set up to begin with by their own deception.
I have been in pain and agony for one year and a half without hardly a living soul or body to be here for me or have my back. I was suicidal more than once in this ordeal and not my kids father (at the time fiancée nor my dad cared) at the slightest they cared enough to send a 9111 call to check on me when they lived less than 5 minutes down the road. That is the care and treatment I received. 
I had to find a way to unbury myself in a grave so deep that it felt next near to impossible to do, in the rage, anger, hurt and betrayal. It was so traumatizing I couldn't bear it.
