What is it about dub techno that makes us love it every time we hear those syncopated, heavily reverberated and delayed sounds? Dub makes it easy to get lost in one's own thoughts; to explore the cavernous recesses of one's mind; to get lost and to let go.  And thus most dub productions err on the side of dark echo-y sounds devoid of melody, light and levity.  Well, Fluxion's Slide, released on one of the premier dub labels, Echochord, breaks that mold by anchoring the track in dub but infusing it with melodic elements, and a sense of fun and groove.  A groovy dub? or a dubby groove? Either way, the track makes it easy to get lost inside oneself, but you'll more likely find yourself tapping your foot than chasing the echo.

Qnete’s back in the building for a third X-Kalay release and it’s an anticipated return for the prominent purveyor of prog. Four diverse but coherently related tracks with pit stops in deep house and electro territory

We open proceedings with a dose of the lysergic sound that has become his trademark since debuting on the label in 2021. Evoking ritual and ceremony, ‘Going Short‘ commences with choral pads that beckon to the altar. A slo-mo exercise in dancefloor hypnosis with trace echoes of bleep.

Where ‘Wrapped’ takes a turn toward mellow, ‘Stepperals’, like its A1 counterpart, recalibrates trance tropes into something more chugging and restrained. Another example of Qnete smudging his third eye on a tunnelling, wormhole flex.

And finally, the Leipzig native signs off with a nod to the American Midwest. Opening cerebral gates in a way that recalls classic Detroit In Effect, closing track ‘Circuit Friends’ taps into the futurist utopia imagined by Detroit electro’s pioneers.

PREMIERE: Qnete - Wrapped [X-Kalay]

Fixed Rhythms releases a masterpiece double LP by Texas techno young star, Decoder aka Gautham Garg. Fixed Rhythms previously released a 12” EP entitled “Boulder” under his 'Cratan' alias in 2021, and copies zipped out the door.

Decoder, is a Dallas based producer and DJ specialising in the realm of sci-fi and deep techno. His music personifies his forward thinking ideas as well as his cultural roots, making for a blend of retro-futuristic soundscapes and experimental shades of electronic music.

In early March 2021, Decoder witnessed the inception of his debut release, "The Futurist," brought to life by the Italian label Antiterra. Following this EP, a consistent stream of releases ensued, with Decoder contributing to labels such as Bomphcast, Srie Records, and his own imprint, Codec Recordings.

The same year marked the unveiling of his inaugural album, "Monolithic Activity Spectrum," released under the Spanish label Subsist. Closing out the year, Decoder presented his second album, "Dark Shape," released on Jeff Mills’ renowned Axis imprint. The momentum carried into the first half of 2022, with Decoder's "Moro Safa EP" hitting the shelves under the Amsterdam-based label Float Records. Additionally, this period saw the release of his third full-length album, "Plurality Module," on Subsist, along with a subsequent offering on Float Records titled "Kanavugal."

These releases have also garnered support from many artists including the likes of Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Ben Sims, Jeroen Search, and TWR72, to name a few. Decoder's touring schedule has also seen notable moments, including shows played at notable clubs & parties such as De School, Fold, Cialo.

His eight-track album on Fixed Rhythms consists of hypnotic, bendy techno, with a C1 electro switch-up. You’re instantly transported to the depths of the cosmos within your mind on the first needle drop. An album for all moments of the deep dance, with a D2 that ends the double LP with a powerfully optimistic sonic statement.

PREMIERE: Decoder - Tenuous Sentiment [Fixed Rhythms]

After kicking off its journey with a rich well-received eleven-track compilation at the end of last year, the Saint Brieuc-based Estuary Tapes brings to the virtual shelves its second release. For the occasion, the promising French label welcomes skilled producer nICo to its roster. With previous works featured on HardFist, Inside Out, and Sinchi, just to name a few, the Italian producer refuses to have his sonority pigeonholed and manages to deliver an interesting palate of colourful pieces.

For his debut on Estuary, nICo presents the expertly constructed “Unexplored Earths”, a four-theme EP with a concerning message: “the quest for a new habitable planet” – something we might need way sooner than expected due to the insatiable greed of the abusers of our fragile and doomed little blue dot.

Premiered here, the insightful “The Red Sun” opens the fete wrapped in what nICo considered the correct aura for the EP: "spacey and acid vibes, dub percussions, and shamanic rhythms” which resulted in a mesmerising and emotive cut filled with “textures, deep atmospheres, and solar melodies.”
