Image Research is excited to present a new suite of songs from label stalwart, Hoverist. As one of IR’s founding releases in 2021, ‘Universal Veil’ set the tone with its timeless soundscapes and displaced electronics, embedded in a deep love and appreciation for 90’s IDM.

Flash forward to ‘Expansion Chamber’, the newest offering from the producer which dials in a more rhythmic approach to an already expansive and rich palette. Where ‘Universal Veil’ covers like a warm blanket, ‘Expansion Chamber’ cuts like a knife with a sheen of precision and attention to detail. Genre-bending with fluidity and poise to astonishing results.

There is an uplifting clarity to each of the 4 tracks, that unfold deeply and differently with each listen. Clockwork percussion, emotive synth-work, and an endless supply of chopped and refracted acid sequences combine to entrance and catapult physical movement.

True to its name, ‘Expansion Chamber’ guides the listener in and out of the body, passing through unconscious states. A swirling fever dream of energy and light. - HPT

Oceans is my first LP, and strays ever so slightly away from the club-oriented tracks I’ve released so far. This time, I wanted to lean in more on some of my non-dance music influences, such as shoegaze, post rock and ambient, and channel them into deeply emotional and atmospheric breakbeat tracks.

Although it has no lyrics, Oceans has a story to tell, a deeply personal one. It is the backdrop to a journey of self discovery, a tale of navigating across the vastness of a troubled tapestry of emotions, a coming of age.

Oceans is about finding beauty among the darkness within, embracing the melancholy, and staring into the light after rising from the ashes.

Boston-based vocalist and producer ROBY has cemented himself as even more vocal-driven over the past year. With a production background in crisp future garage productions, ROBY has been confidently bringing his vocal and lyrical abilities to the forefront with each passing era. He made his live debut at Tabula Rasa’s electric Here & Now Release party in New York in 2023, a show which received rave reviews with prior-released vocal anthems like ‘Leave Me Behind’ and ‘Plasma Glass’.

On his new EP vividity, ROBY specializes in loose, short musings, like entries in a journal. Constantly shifting genres, his sleek, crisp productions are glued together by themes of heartbreak, and an ever-present sensitivity toward loss in life’s changes. These lyrics are often not about himself - but projected scenarios of everyday human occurrence. A particular favorite, the first single ‘fade away’ features light and nimble drum & bass influence. The song is about drifting apart from a significant other and yearning feelings of jealousy or nervousness that arise from a break-up. ‘can we be’ contains naked tinges of a vocoder acapella ala Bon Iver while ‘evolve+dissolve’ features pounding trance synths and lasers, sketched out by sugar-coated Kansas City pop star Andr3w J0hn.

Exclusive Stefan Goldmann 'An Ardent Heart'

Macro co-label founder Stefan Goldmann, whose early productions were out on labels such as Perlon, Ovum, Classic or Innervisions, has been a scene's mainstay since 2002. With his mini album 'An Ardent Heart' the busy artists created his most dance floor oriented material in the last decade. 'An Ardent Heart', of course, follows a concept, and for those who know Goldmann musically it is obvious that the Berlin based artists added an evident pattern to the album. For 'An Ardent Heart' Stefan predominantly worked within a 'vocalized' mode of synthesis that recreates speech patterns through 'formant shaping, vowel filters and airstream perturbations', the artist says. The album's name giving track, 'An Ardent Heart, surely is the most vivid realization of the afore-described as the transformed vocal creates a mesmerizing effect that is highlighted with a driving bassline.

Stefan Goldmann's mini album 'An Ardent Heart' will be released July 20th, 2018 on Macro Recordings.
