Jamie Jones has always been a forward-thinking A&R, as he proves with this series, which shines a light on the best talent currently out there, often with a focus on the darker side of the dance floor.

Pacha Ibiza resident and increasingly vital house artist Calvin Clarke kicks off with the punchy 'Catch A Vibe.' It's a seductive late-night house sound with whirring synths and a detached vocal that bleeds in and out over crisp kick drums and razor-sharp percussion. Young Chilean star Lucas Moss is an exciting new name with releases on labels like Solid Grooves Raw, Roush Label and Drumma Records. His brilliant 'Disko Papi' is a hooky cut with woodpecker-like bass stabs and sleazy vocals. The drums are raw and kinetic for maximum dance floor impact.

Last of all is London's Niteplan, an artist with an all-encompassing underground background and a discerning ear for tidy grooves. His '6 In The AM' is a gritty after-hours cut with paranoid vocals panning about the mix and slapping hits. It has an alluring atmosphere that is perfect for those freakier moments.

This is another vital selection of innovative house sounds from Hottrax.

Originally hailing from Serbia, Misha is a Washington DC-based artist who has been making a name for himself with releases on Rawthentic, Tamango, and his own High Class Nasty imprint, with his last two outings gracing the top spot in the Beatport tech house charts. The Echostage resident now readies his Hottrax debut with the vibrant ‘Ritmo De Verao’ EP, fusing kinetic beats and low-end grooves. 

Opener 'Ritmo De Verao' is a party-pumping cut peppered with lively percussion, rolling snares and tin-pot sounds next to an alluring vocal that brings the heat to what is a no-nonsense tech house weapon. 'Issues' follows, combining more steamy house beats with sensuous vocals, slick drum programming and smart filters to build the tension before 'Snake Charmer' enters more hypnotic territories with its mystic leads, chopped vocal stabs and restless toms.

"For a beautiful walk in an unwalkable city

When I first moved to Bucharest in 2023, Caroline Polachek’s Desire, I Want to Turn Into You had just been released. Pretty in Possible instantly became my favorite song on it, with lyrics that merge the mundane with the absurd in a way that deeply resonated with me. I felt the city resonated with it too. It’s quite random and has nothing to do with the actual music heard on these streets, but now that I live here, this is still how Bucharest often feels to me: like muffled drums, abrasive and soothing at the same time. Because of that one song, I started listening to a lot of trip-hop from the 1990s–00s. I began collecting songs (in a playlist called woosh woosh) - starting with stuff like Massive Attack, Everything But The Girl, Portishead, Saint Etienne, and Madonna’s Ray of Light. Over the past two years though, this has branched out in all sorts of new directions. Here’s how it sounds now."
