Moonee - Primal Groove EP

Tiptoes makes a welcome return to SlothBoogie Records this November with a fresh four-track EP, entitled ‘The Akai Samurai Strikes Again’.

Glasgow’s Tiptoes has long been a respected name in the Scottish electronic music circuit, bringing his eclectic style to the table as a DJ, blending everything from jazz to jungle, house to techno, garage, broken beat and many more genres. His productions are a nod to his many influences and once again with this EP were treated to an amalgamation of sounds. The project follows on from his recent acclaimed EP on Darius Syrossian’s Moxy Music entitled ‘Cuss Tomato’.

‘Techno Woo’ leads the way and see Tiptoes embracing a filter house feel, merging a number of choppy funk licks, vocal chants, and bass lines in an ever-unfolding dynamic matter, while dusty drums carry the bouncy groove throughout. ‘Brotherman’ then tips the focus on to soul drenched guitar lines, brass melodies, snaking bass grooves and hypnotic vocal lines alongside loose, swinging percussion.

Opening the flip side is ‘Mars Landings’, embracing a deeper house aesthetic courtesy of hazy Rhodes chords,
swelling vocal loops and organic drums before ‘Strings’ rounds things out, as the name would suggest the
composition is built around expansive string melodies, gritty bass stabs and sturdy, thunderous drums.

The first release in the new year is taken over by a talented producer and a beautiful girl from Yerevan - Henna Onna with her incredible solo work "Get Away" in the company of male dance remixes from Heat Alliance and Simplex Motive.
The original melodies are imbued with warmth and nostalgia, where love and inspiration from jazz music are clearly visible, tunes will listen perfectly at home by the fireplace or in a bar and opening up in a club, remixes on the contrary are aimed more at a dance rhythm and will clearly work in clubs.
The whole release is a wonderful palette of house and chillout music

SlothBoogie Records return for 2023 with a classy five tracker from Moonee called Primal Groove EP. The title track takes us deep into a nostalgic trip with its string swells and filtered bass. Moonee is flexing his deep house muscles on this one as snappy percussion punctuates more MPC sampling, building tension towards the reveal of the main heads down groove section… classy business from the frenchman!

Moonee - Primal Groove [SB Premiere]

The Primal Groove EP was born and it starts off with ‘Apples’, a Motor city soul drenched track with filtered bass, dusty horn samples and spaced out guitar licks. Shuffled along by MPC beats before an otherworldly vocal washes over and brings it all to a close. ‘Shishingo’ is up next with it’s clever vocal manipulation, bouncy drums, subtle organ flourishes and a skipping bassline that builds up to some good ol’ time piano workout. Completing the A side is ‘Dinner At Michelle’s’... the most disco cut of the 12”. More shuffling shakers and filtered guitar loops backed by a thumping kick and ever circling strings leading the way for a full on 4/4 workout.

Flipping over to the B sides introduces us to the title track ‘Primal Groove’ that takes us deep into a nostalgic trip with its string swells and filtered bass. Moonee is flexing his deep house muscles on this one as snappy percussion punctuates more MPC sampling, building tension towards the reveal of the main heads down groove section… classy business. Finally for dessert is ‘Boka’ a sumptuous glistening track that’s primed for beachside sunsets. Saturated with hypnotic vibes that’ll help you drift away into a calmer, more peaceful sanctuary.

We've now been at this since 2010 and over the years we've really tried to deliver the kind of house music (and beyond) that we would play, listen and dance to ourselves.   We really tried to avoid the dangerous traps of following trends which in the long run can water down labels to just a music portal instead of a music brand with character. Basically, we aim to deliver our own musical personality via artists and producers that we love and respect. To sum things up, we are proud to present our second label compilation, Local Talk - 13 Years Later.
 
In part two of our 13 Years Later compilation we reached out to both regular in-house producers as well as some brand new friends on the house scene.   As always, we try and aim for a wide spectrum of styles and you'll hear everything from classic house, deep house, soulful house, dub and hip hop from some of our fave producers like Wipe The Needle, James L'Estraunge Orchestra, Damon Frost.

We also included producers like Glenn Davis, Rico Herrera, Aurelius and Caserta which we believe is doing exciting music and should be heard by many more.   

We sincerely hope you will enjoy this selection of dance MUSIC as much as we do and that there's something for everyone on our compilation.
