With previous releases on Delusions of Grandeur, Voyeurythm and more, UK producer Ben Sun delivers a gorgeous blend of deep textures that hearken back to the golden era of NY and Chicago with his ‘Distant Messenger EP’ on Razor-N-Tape.

The A-side, ‘Transmission’ has all the vibey goodness of an early Strictly Rhythm record, while ‘Sable Sun’ scuba dives into Larry Heard territory with lush pad swells and squelching acid lines. On the flip, the emotive motion of ‘Tremors’ builds through hypnotic arpeggiated synths, a slow-rolling bassline and crystalline melodies, and the record finishes in proto-house territory with the Peech Boys era Larry Levan inspired ‘Red Light’. This EP may wear its influences on its sleeve, but it looks (and sounds) classy as hell.

Ryan Berkeley returns with a brand new release, "The Arp Ascending EP" in his signature stripped back and raw house style. 6 tracks that all started out as live jams and reworked into a collection of songs that flow through floating leads, deep bass, dubbed out influences and subtle vocals. Equal parts deep early morning energy and soundscape.

'Goin' Deep opens the EP with a Chicago infused house groove and soaring analogue leads. Keeping the energy at 100%, track 2 'Wise Groove' is a minimal roller with heavy low end, one for the smoke filled rooms and early morning enthusiasts.

'La Niña' boils down to vast soundscapes, a slow number showcasing Berkeley's dynamic side, reminiscent of some of his earlier works.
'The Arp Ascending', the releases namesake song starts with heavy drums and epic arpeggiated synths, underneath a rolling bass-line that keeps things moving, all the way up and up, ending in an epic climax.

The EP dives down again into 'She Sells Sea Shells', a lush downtempo number with layers of blips and bloops weaving through strings and 808's. Rounding out the EP is the dubbed out finisher, 'Polish & Protect' with hypnotic stabs and FM leads, clocking in at an appropriate 4 minutes 20 seconds.

Throughout his relatively short career in solo (His contribution to house duet Twice Movement started in 2015) , Groovence’s Head Moonee (real name François Lefevre) has delivered some top shelf contributions over the last years, appearances like his debut track on Groovence last year « Faith & Sorrow » and an official remix for Sweely’s banger « Gotta Keep On » in 2020.

This debut EP was composed at home between 2019 and 2020, as time was flying during the first covid lockdown. With most daily constraints gone, Moonee had time to plug in his MPCs and finish this batch of tracks. Blending contemporary and classic deep house, the EP draws inspiration from artists such as Mr.G, Dj Q, Linkwood or Theo Parrish.

AVA. Records is about to reissue Move D’s Kunststoff album from 1994. Coming this May, there will be two handcrafted and remastered versions.

Aside from a classic 2LP release, AVA.LP006, there will also be a limited edition 4LP housed in a handmade box - AVA.XL001. This exclusive repress of Move D’s seminal masterpiece will be limited to 130 copies worldwide. It will contain the original album, two records of previously unreleased Kunststoff material, a cassette tape with live jams from 2005 and a signed screen print.

Taking inspiration from the iconic original sleeve design, this limited edition is beautifully put together by hand in Heidelberg, Germany – Move D’s hometown, and the birthplace of Kunststoff in 1994. Each element of the design represents a part of the chair depicted on the original sleeve artwork: orange leather, dark wood, brushed metal and the blue carpet. 

The boxes are assembled by hand and wrapped with high-quality Fedrigoni paper that matches the original design's orange leather upholstery. The title and credits on the back are screen-printed in white, by hand, using the original release's iconic typography. The box is inlaid with thick blue felt representing the blue carpet. On top of the four records lies a numbered screen-print of the minimalistic chair design, printed on the same orange Fedrigoni Italian stock used for the box, and signed by Move D. The record sleeves are printed silver on white, with slick type on the back and four versions of the original chair design on each cover. And finally, as the cherry "on top“, a cassette is found on the bottom in a specially designed opening in the felt inlay. 

This box is a project of true passion, crafted by hand, to the highest standards of quality in the very same beautiful city that is home to this exceptional artist. Each part of this lavish package is lovingly designed to form a grand tribute to a truly seminal record and its creator.

All love within this desparate place was to be found amidst the room, what was external was to be forgotten and ignored for the time being. He had come here to dance with freedom and self preservation. This was his night upon the floor and the rest of society could give a damn how he moved to and fro with a swing in his step. 

Ryan Berkeley is set to release an inspired new EP on Houses In Motion in what will be the fifth outing on the record label. A strong release spanning a breadth of genres and style - this one is a treat.

Melbourne's Houses in Motion are a label we've had the pleasure of premiering music from before. Continuing to stay with their ethos of releasing only local, Aussie artists, they have the pleasure of welcoming fellow Melburnian Ryan Berkeley into their family. It's been a little while since HIM's last release but we're happy they're pushing only the best talent that they come across. HIM005 from Ryan Berkeley is a bit of an intergalactic journey that builds up as the record progresses.

Starting off with some lush melodies on the A side in the forms of 'Everything in Moderation' and 'All I Love', we see a subdued and dreamy side of the Australian producer. Floaty cosmic atmospheres and bloops take you straight into outer space. As the A side draws to a close this spaceship picks up some steam with 'Crutches'. Subdued squelchy melodies and arpeggiated riffs are the turning point on the record and there's no going back as the hard-hitting B side looms on the horizon.

B1 'JuKnow?' brings us straight into house territory with a chunky bass, chopped vocal loops and extra-terrestrial bleeps as we approach the blazing heat of the sun on this journey into outer space. Climaxing on the B2 and our premiere today, we feel the full intensity of the record culminate in 'You Dance, You Move'. A vocal sample tells you to do just that as heavy drums and an acid line start to melt your brain. You're fully in alien territory now and there's no turning back.

In 2016 in Melbourne, The Love Above began as a sanctuary of house and disco in Melbourne’s underground club scene. A party in which DJs explored their record collections in search of that dusty disco banger or that forgotten King Street b-side dub mix. A place where dancers could feel safe, free, and welcome to express themselves and their individuality. The sound was house music. The mentality was freedom and love. Finally, in 2019, Ryan Berkeley, DJ Ingrid & Dawn Again (The Love Above) embarked on their journey to share their love for house music. From this, Love Above Records was formed.
 
Love Above Records is a medium through which we can champion the sound that defines The Love Above. We aim to push house music with a modern twist, taking influence from the early years. Love Above Records is an extension of our beloved parties, and a way to take the party with you. Hot off their latest release with T. Jacques, London-based djs/party-turned label Tessellate show no signs of slowing down as they bring us the 'Drop Down' EP from Parisian dj and producer, Armless Kid. 

Marking their sixth release, Tessellate have by now established a very tight signature sound and vision for their label. Concentrating on club-readiness, Tessellate is shaping up to be first and foremost a dj’s label, concentrating on function over home-listening. However, this never goes far enough to reduce any of their output to “dj only” material, as their careful curation always has space for functional groovers with tuneful, harmonious elements and headier vibes.

Per usual, their sixth is full of all these signature ingredients. The A1 and original “Club Mix” of Drop Down provides the most tranquil listen of the bunch: a broken beat and flanged breaks set the scene, as catchy bursts of acid and synth lines reminiscent of old Project Pablo tunes ring out over the top. The B side features deeper and more minimal vibes across two more original cuts.
 
The A2 “Acid Reflex” flip of the leading track by Opal Sunn is our pick of the bunch. The Berlin duo (who’s latest release on Nick Hoeppner’s Touch From A Distance imprint is a must-listen) take the original up a notch, layering additional percussion over the original, replacing the smooth chords with rapid, sequenced synth work and finishing it off with a hefty touch of acid. Dreamy, dubby and sweet in patches, though techy and functional all the same, it all adds up to make a tune with Tessellate written all over it.

What’s special about Tessellate has been their ability to create a brand so in touch with all it’s built upon, a testament to their A&R. If you’ve ever seen Tessellate play or been to their parties, you’ll know what we mean (if you haven't, you should make it one of your post-quarantine plans). By now the Tessellate label has become all the right amount of predictable. The consistency is there, and you know what you’ll get with Tessellate, but it’s fresh every time and we definitely can’t wait for more.

It's been 30 years since John Peel pondered over a mysterious house record with cryptic stickers on his legendary radio show in January of 1991. In 2020 Craigie Knowes sister label Wormhole Wisdom has pulled out all the stops to remaster and reissue this important piece of UK dance music history.

Super-rare classics "Laura Laura" and "La Monde Marine" are coupled with 3 previously unheard/unreleased tracks that were recorded as part of Simon Power's Marine Boy project 3 decades ago - 2 of which have been loving edited for DJ-use by label co-head Parts Unknown.
