Berlin-based producers Michael Ritter and Felix E team up for their debut full-length album 22:22, a project shaped by stories, emotion, and collaboration.

The ten-track album moves between slower listening tracks, emotional pieces, and more driving cuts, each created with patience and love. Contributions from Sister Sol and Paul Brenning add a unique layer to the album, bringing a human touch to the duo's otherwise electronic sound.

22:22 is a milestone release for both friends and their mothership label Reconsider Music.

@Roam-Recordings 38th release comes from Italian producer Luca ‘@DJ-Rocca’ Roccatagliati. Having previously released on Compost, Classic, Sonar Kollektiv, rekids, International Feel and currently working with Daniele Baldelli and Dimitri from Paris his impressive acid disco narratives were perfect for Roam Recordings.

The EP starts out with DJ Rocca’s original ‘Maccheroni’ - a stunning blend of jazz, latin rhythms, and analog melodies. Joining the EP for a remix is New York’s Eric ‘Dr Dunks’ Duncan (half of legendary DJ & production duo Rub n Tug & also half of DFA's 'Still Going).  The EP continues with ‘Aula’, another excellent original from the maestro DJ Rocca. ‘Aula’ keeps with the theme of blended jazz, latin rhythms, and analog melodies, but in a much more subtle stripped down fashion. 

We fell in love with Black Spuma's remix straight away though, the production duo of Lauer (Tuff City Kids/Talamanca System) and Fabrizio @Mammarella (Telespazio) who have a history of quality releases on labels such as Running Back, Beats in Space, Permanent Vacation, Rollerboys Recordings and International Feel. Together they rework Rocca’s ‘Aula’ into a head nodding house music for house people textured track with a body moving bass line. A superb addition to the strong cast already on this EP.

The first remix from Eric Copeland's newly released DFA album 'Goofballs' comes from Cooper Saver, co-founder of Far Away, the LA cassette label & secret monthly party, who reworks the LP standout 'Neckbone'. Goofballs sees Black Dice's Copeland return to DFA with a brand-new set of hyper & hectic leftfield club music. The album places its emphasis on playful melodies, ear worm hooks & vocals mixed with trademark machine funk rhythms that hit hard and land offbalance. Any other way would be too obvious for an artist like Eric. Perhaps he even invented a new dance genre: ‘Goofstep’. We’ll see if that one sticks…
Eric explained the creation of this new LP to us via email from his home on an island in lovely Balearic Palma Spain:
“I made it here in Palma at my studio, this is the first full record I’ve made entirely here since moving. some of this material was road tested September 2016 on tour supporting Animal Collective. This album was the result of real isolation here, countless hours, focused only on this. The whole recording & writing was a fast process. I focused most on the bass groove. I had a very minimal gear setup: 90’s drum machine, cheap bass machine and a sampler. But most important was a homemade ‘drum brain’ that Barry’s London custom made for me. Barry was in the Van Pelt Soldiers of Fortune & Oneida. That piece of gear was a big part of this record and informed the direction it took the most.”
Eric Copeland is a founding member of Black Dice as well as a prolific solo artist. Besides DFA, he has released albums on L.I.E.S., Post Present Medium & Paw Tracks.
Goofballs was mixed by Rusty Santos (who has mixed everyone from DJ Rashad to Panda Bear to Owen Pallett) and mastered by Joe Lambert. It is Eric’s third solo album for DFA Records.

The corridor echoed with the sound of birds and whistles. The glass chamber was kept awfully warm in the summer, although that was partially as a result of the radiant heat which burned down upon the greenhouse from outside. Within the melting pot there was a delicate harmony which was hard to replicate out there amidst the wilderness of the city. Wild things simply did not grow amidst the concrete jungle, despite the funny turn of phrase. In here all things could flourish in their own time. 

Maestro are a new Scottish/ French power duo who are to release their second album in the coming months. They have showcased a single from the forthcoming release on a new EP for Tigersushi, complete with some stellar remixes. General Ludd do the damn thing this time around.

WS026: Jac The Disco - Highest Heights EP

Jay Rossi, aka East London DJ stalwart Jac The Disco, returns with the Highest Heights EP, which is available digitally on US label Wonder Stories. 10 years of DJing all over London at venues like fabric, XOYO, 93 Feet East and the Queen of Hoxton has left Rossi with an instinctive grasp of what works on the dancefloor. 

The Highest Heights EP consists of two brand new tracks plus two remixes. First off we have the title track, ‘Highest Heights’, a throbbing disco / house paean to Rossi’s love of rolling basslines and sharp claps, chock-full of moody flavour thanks to some shimmering synth work atop those pumping tribal drums at its core. When you want to move the dancefloor into peak-time misbehaviour, this is the one you reach for. 

Meanwhile the In Flagranti remix doubles down on the hypnotic qualities of the original, making it a real 3am chugger complete with even tighter drums and hypnotic chords that can power a dancefloor well past dawn, in the right hands. Rossi’s signature warm sound gives way to a tougher approach as In Flagranti summons more of a jacking, machine-funk vibe. 

Next comes ‘Good Times’, a low-slung underground disco number that really speaks to the hips as its lazy, sun-drenched vibes echo through the ether. Anchored by a sinuously tropical guitar bassline, soaring FX and scintillating claps, this number really highlights the warm groove-led aesthetic that’s central to the whole Jac The Disco sound. 

Then on the remix, Wonder Stories boss Aimes adds some weight to the laidback original by toughening up the rolling bass and spacing out the guitar riffs further into cosmic disco territory. If the OG is about getting the dancers going, then this version is about sending them straight into the stratosphere, via the squelchy acid synths that punch up the outro and aim straight for the heavens.

The multi-faceted Citizens of Vice label serve up a second fantastic offering of tunes from the Somethin’ Sanctified duo of Simon Mills (one half of electronic duo Bent) and Joel Hood (International Feel).

This pair have a studio that brims with vintage gear and a collection of samples that is second to none. Their output spans two decades of playing the world’s finest dance floors, they have worked together on each other’s solo projects on International Feel and have a shared love of hardware-driven house and disco with real atmosphere.

Arrivals Part 1 was a huge success, with big support from DJ and Mixmag and the track ‘Cya’ from the EP being tipped as a possible house track of the year. BBC 6 Music have also given the duo’s remix of Joyce Muniz & Little Boots plenty of airtime while Hot Toddy, Nick Warren, Jacques Renault and Ashley Beedle are also big fans.

The second superb EP kicks off with ‘Soul Glo’ which is a heart-warming track with spritely disco house drums and warped bass all topped off with beautifully angelic afro vocals up top that usher in summertime in style. The brilliant ‘CuCuCu’ is built on loose drum loops with rising melodies and breezy pads all lifting the spirits in perfectly sun-kissed fashion.

The deliciously deep ‘Marzipan’ then sinks into rolling drums and bass, with colourful and exotic percussive sounds up top all getting you in the mood to groove. Last of all is the blissed-out Balearic beat of ‘White Blossoms’ with its airy xylophones, meandering bass and dreamy vocals all soothing the soul.

This is another impossibly timeless and feel good EP of smooth house and disco sounds.

Our next PREMIERE comes from Sprechen in the form of a Timothy Clerkin remix of the new Night Giants single (What a dream team)!!

The track is called “Bleak House” and it’s a proper ACID BANGER!! Feels slightly slower in tempo compared to the original track but with a much filthier bassline!

Can see both versions doing major damage to dancefloors over the next few months as the original is also a peak time belter!

From nought to believer in 60 seconds, https://soundcloud.com/timothyclerkin returns to Insult To Injury (the label he runs with perennially on-point platform Ransom Note) with three rave verses torn from the ultimate late night good book. ‘Psalm’ takes us back to the oldest churches; big pads, lush chords, rushes galore, it’s a true dedication to the foundations but done with 2020 vision and production.

‘Slave Too’ follows with some serious up-a-gear oomph; full-on breaks, savage detuned stabs, it’s 1992 again, it’s 2am and everyone’s invited… Including the legend that is Jas Shaw who’s been an inspiration for Clerkin for many years (the Eskimo Twins were actually formed outside a Simian gig at The Cockpit in Leeds many years ago) Flipping the rave but maintaining the pressure, Jas rolls out a juggernaut damager with full emphasis on those pounding kicks and the endless mutations in and around the groove. Heads-down, prepare to blast.

Finally we wrap up the business in the warped and woozy spirit Timothy intended. ‘Exist Between The Spaces’ is disarming, strange, trippy and unconventional. It’s the finale every epic rave requires and the message in the title can’t be faulted either.
