We are excited to kick start the weekend with this booming dancefloor bomb of a remix from respected Detroit house and techno artist Patrice Scott for Melbourne's breakout house meets jazz producer, Horatio Luna. Vibes on this one are so deep, it's almost one to meditate to whilst you move. 

Composer, bassist and producer Horatio Luna is a musician intrinsically interwoven into the fabric of Melbourne’s (and indeed the global) jazz scene. Following his 2020 LP “Boom Boom” (Which won support from the likes of Jamz Supernova, Lefto, Bradley Zero, Earmilk and OkayPlayer) Horatio returns to Jitwam’s The Jazz Diaries imprint, inviting several of his all time favourite producers to reimagine some of his standout tracks. 

The ‘Reworks EP’ kicks off with Horatio’s interpretation of ‘Milestones’ (a cover of the incredible Miles Davis track), while enigmatic UK producer Zepherin Saint takes to the boards with his remix of ‘Bumps’, giving the track a new lease of life with scattered drums and jazzy progressions. Next up Detroit’s Patrice Scott turns in his emotive remix of Horatio’s LP title track ‘Boom Boom’ - featuring moody pads, piano flourishes and an ominous bassline, he adds some Mo-town seasoning into the original. Last but not least the one and only Kai Alcé also turns his gaze to ‘Boom Boom’ opting for a more uplifting approach, and his Wurlitzer notes stretch into the ether, to be joined by a driving rhythm section to keep the dancers moving. With these incredible remixes, Horatio’s infectious and groove-soaked driving bassline and astral textures are given a soulful injection from some of the finest in the game.

This remix EP is so strong it was hard to choose a favourite but Patrice just nailed it on this one.  His remix of "Boom Boom" will drop on February 16, whilst the full EP will follow on March 11.

The figure 8 always meant more to us than just a symbol on your screen. For this very reason on our eighth vinyl release from ‘Minor Notes Recordings’ we’re featuring non other than the legendary producer ‘BMB SpaceKid’. Stemming from St. Petersburg and from an early age, BMB proved himself to be an extraordinary musician. Able produce top quality compositions with easy, and in any style, but all with his unique twist.

To date BMB is best known in hip-hop circles as he made album beats for many key underground rap artists. He also went international and produced joint tracks with Dj Premier, Anderson Paak, Raekwon, GoldLink and many others.

BMB has also performed at the Fabric Club in London, the Outlook Origins festival, live on Boiler Room and BBC Radio 1. He also participated in the Red Bull Bass Camp and the Hip-Hop Academy.

On the record "Taste Booster" BMB SpaceKid showcases his taste and skills in the production of house style dance music. A tribute to the traditions of African-American music, the virtuoso mastery of MPC and sampling techniques, and an outstanding approach to melodic rhythms.

We are convinced that this record will appeal to everyone who loves true house music, acting as a breath of fresh air. To enhance the overall effect we invited one of our favorite French producer ‘Art Of Tones’, who for a long time, and just like us, has been promoting the organic sound of electronic music 4x4.

Multi-dimensional future-jazz outfit JK GROUP release a new EP, Rising on La Sape Records. The brainchild of award-winning saxophonist, Joshua Kelly (30/70 collective, PBS Young Elder of Jazz 2019), the band returns to the label with a follow up EP to the mind-bending 2021 release, What’s Real? 

Where What’s Real? served as a platform for wild experimentation, Rising returns to a more considered and familiar format for the band, offering up 4 cohesive tracks that are deep in conception and expression, at once original and fresh. Conceived after recording an as yet unreleased body of work written whilst undergoing chemotherapy, Rising celebrates bandleader Josh’s survival and eventual recovery from the intense treatment he received for lymphoma in 2020. 

The band stays true to their honed format of jazz traditions melding with influences from electronica and beyond. Like the first release, The Young Ones, Rising sits comfortably in the crossover of raw, live jazz and electronic dance music,  whilst also throwing an unexpected curveball to the listener expanding the palate of the bands sound to a pigment never before heard in their music. The EP takes you on an emotional journey throughout the four tracks, best listened to start-to-finish.

Born in the heartland of Melbourne suburb Fitzroy, Steady Weather is a new project comprised of scene stalwarts Ben Grayson and Tamil Rogeon) bring to light organic dance music from Melbourne’s rich neo-soul and jazz community. With a lineage that leads directly to the founding of groups like Australian funk royalty The Bamboos and orchestral beat music pioneers The Raah Project, Rogeon and Grayson not only bring that heritage to their music, they bring a philosophy of raw emotion and soulfulness to their productions. Tamil also plays strings for Harvey Sutherland’s Bermuda, with the group’s musical DNA echoing in Steady Weather’s productions.
