There is a big black heart in Barcelona that it is still beating. Three weeks later, we’re still digesting the magic that was the fourth edition of Mostra festival. From the most intimate listening moments to collective catharsis on the dancefloor, this year was something else.

Starting from the end this year, we’re proud to present the recorded closing set from Mostra's resident ABSIS, who delivered a deeply emotional finale that distilled everything Mostra stands for: a blend of force, finesse, energy and passion — all woven into one.

Across four editions, countless moments, different days and stages, ABSIS has always been there: reading the different dance floors, adapting, connecting the dots between sound and feelings. Being a resident is more than just playing; it’s embodying the festival’s pulse, giving it identity and continuity, and raising the collective experience to another level.

If you’ve journeyed with Mostra through the years, you know how central ABSIS (alongside Timnah and Patrick Russell) has been to shaping that Mostra spirit. If you haven’t yet, you may find the chance next year.

And now, for the first time: ABSIS closing the festival. A powerful tribute to what it means to support the local scene, not just by listing names from the city, but by creating moments like this one that matters.

For the 393rd edition of the Inverted Audio Mix Series, we are thrilled to present an hour-long sonic journey from @edenaurelius. Currently based in New York, Eden’s spent many years immersed in the DIY and club scenes of NYC and Chicago, her previous home before relocating two years ago.

Last year’s debut ‘Pleateau’ was one of our favourite releases of 2024. A potent mixture of ambient and dub techno, ‘Pleateau’ has only gotten better in the spin around the sun since it was released. It hooks you in with its unhurried rhythms that pulse with a vibrant spirit. The album feels like a welcome time out from the anxieties of constant connections and endless news cycles.

Along with recent output by Purelink (who are friends and collaborators), Eden’s work feels like an essential new chapter in the long, winding story of ambient dub. As Summer takes control, we caught up with Eden to talk about her musical beginnings, all time and current favourite albums, and upcoming projects.

Emerging as a new entity within the electronic landscape, Bastien steps forward from the shadows of past identities and older sounds. His latest evolution dives deep into vast, textured realms of drone and ambient, weaving together horizontal soundscapes with touches of lo-fi, experimental tones, and avant-garde sensibilities. With subtle hints of dub, profound bass drones, and layered textures, Bastien’s music holds an immersive quality that transports listeners to an otherworldly space.

His work finds a home on the Red Edge label, with his album Temps Boro marking a sonic journey that feels as meditative as it is intense. Festival-goers can expect an experience both introspective and expansive—a sound that doesn’t merely fill the space but transforms it, inviting each listener to lose themselves in the echoing depths and resonance of Bastien’s unique soundscape.

Madelyn Byrd (they/them, b. 1992) is an educator, musician, DJ, and worldbuilding practitioner based in Berlin. Their creative and educational work implements decolonial, hydrofeminist and queer ecology to investigate possibilia and the “sympoietics” of co-becoming to promote synergistic social transformation beyond human-centred perspectives. Byrd fosters a deeply collaborative, interdisciplinary spirit to deconstruct and reconstruct the perceptual realm, weaving field recording, intricate sound design, spoken word, and somatics. Madelyn holds a Masters in Neuroaesthetics from Goldsmiths, where they researched the impact of collaborative imagination on measures of connection and hope in social praxis art. They teach critical theory + music production courses on sonic worldbuilding with Soundial. They are a current resident in Zurich University of the Art’s School of Commons (SoC), 2025 with collaborator Lou Croff Blake to develop their project, Chimera.

@slowfoam is Byrd’s all-encompassing, genre-defying music moniker. They create speculative post-human dialogues and para-worlds, sculpting a/biotic textures from electroacoustics, field recording, feedback, granulated synthesis, drones, and spoken word. Their playful sonic tapestries are spatially triggered and adapted to deep-listening environments, clubs, and everything in between. They have performed and toured extensively, including recent performances at Subbacultcha (NL), Cafe Oto (London), The Lab (San Francisco), Morse (Tokyo), and Morphine Raum (Berlin). Their discography has been published on Somewhere Press, Mappa, and Jungle Gym Records. Slowfoam is a former resident at Internet Public Radio, where they curated their monthly show, Our Tomorrow. Their work has yielded features on Bandcamp, Electronic Sound Mag, DJ Mag, First Impressions, Pitchfork, Boomkat, The Wire Magazine, and Futurism Restated.

q. please introduce yourselves:

a. My name is Sasha Ushenko, and I'm an artist from Kyiv. Together with my close friend and collaborator WiELOROMAN aka Roma Pivnenko, we’ve built a deep connection through our shared taste in music and vision.

We co-create a project called Practices of Conscious Listening @pup.listening.club — a series of events where we invite people and artists into the world of deep listening, meditative states, and alternative soundscapes. Our goal is to explore how sound can be used as a tool for presence, awareness, and inner exploration.


q. is there a story behind the mix?

a. There’s definitely a story behind this mix. It was born naturally from a live B2B session we played at the Stricka Festival in Kyiv, in the summer of 2024. The setting was beautiful — a lush garden surrounded by greenery, and the vibe was incredibly present, almost timeless.

The mix captured that moment of deep connection - with the music, the space, and the people around us. For a long time, it just sat quietly, waiting to be heard again. 

When we play together, it feels intense and super-spiritual because we hold this depth together with our double intention.


q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?

a. I think the best way to enjoy this mix is to simply gather your friends, put the music on, boil some water, pour some tea — and just be. Whether it’s shared conversations in nature or quiet moments of presence together, this mix was made to hold space for that kind of connection. It’s not about listening with intensity — it’s about letting the sound gently accompany a real, grounded moment in life.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room (individually)...

a. Sasha - I really love my table in the living room. There’s just so much happening around it — it feels like a digital workspace, but also a creative sanctuary. I draw there, drink tea, read, write… everything kind of flows through that table. It’s simple, but it holds a lot of energy. It’s just… the table, you know?

Roma - probably my favorite object is a whole wall consisting of memories, important trinkets, bookshelves with favorite material, a place for a vinyl collection and a sound system. This corner has become for me a kind of mirror that can remind you of the important things on the path of this character, through which all life breathes


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music, together or individually)?

a. Musically, I want to finish a special release for Gasoline Records — it’s a vinyl postcard project that brings together five musicians, five photographers, and two organizations: our label and the Kyiv Biennial. It’s a cross-disciplinary collaboration that merges sound and visual art in a very tactile, analog format.

Alongside that, WiELOROMAN and I are continuing our journey with Practices of Conscious Listening. We’re motivated to keep creating offline events, and we’re also planning to launch a podcast series to deepen the conversation around attentive listening and sound as a meditative practice.

On a more personal level, I’m diving deeper into healing sound — exploring voice, vibration, and the yoga of sound as tools for body-mind connection and inner transformation.

Roma, in turn, works extensively in the field of online education, creating courses for his clients and helping teachers develop transformational programs to support the growth of their students. He is also a "guide". It seems that this is his lifetask, to combine people, ideas, and tracks with each other, so that something divinely beautiful comes out of it.

Letter to the kid

Mostra and Deep Breakfast Series are collaborating for a second year to bring you home some of the sounds that echoed through the festival’s unique spaces. Mostra is an intimate, independent festival dedicated to forward-thinking and experimental electronic music, taking place over four days in Barcelona.

Among the featured performances was nigul, the ambient drone project of Jaume Muntsant (also known as Droneghost). Active since 2004, nigul explores themes of darkness and fear through dense sonic textures, field recordings, and evolving soundscapes. His hybrid set unfolded on the second day of performances at Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació.

“This is a picture I snapped on a recent hike (very close but lucky safe from the Altadena wildfire destruction zone). The tangly dense vines hugging around a grove of trees symbolize to me an ecosystem free from the stains of humankind. In this set, I imagined the sounds of before, during, and after the Anthropocene. This set was cathartic because, in the process of layering these sounds, I reflected on feelings of climate grief and solastalgia. I hope you are able to listen on a walk or somewhere quiet 🍃”

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of attending the fourth edition of Mostra, one of the most beautiful, safe, and welcoming gatherings we've ever experienced. It was an intimate, four-day festival in the city of Barcelona dedicated to exploring experimental electronic music and the avant-garde — expertly curated and surrounded by a beautiful community of like-minded souls who treated us like family.

On the second day of the festival at Fabra i Coats — inside one of the most respectful and attentive listening rooms, with an audience whose silence drew you even deeper into the sound — Detroit legend and Mostra resident Patrick Russell took his place in the booth, seated this year, and delivered a deeply moving and powerful sonic trip — one we’re honored to share with you today.

A big thank you to Patrick and Mostra for giving us the opportunity to share one of our favourite performances of the festival.

The Field Between: Music and Anti-Music

This artistic manifesto explores sound in the liminal space between music and anti-music—a generative field where the "unheard" insists on being felt rather than understood.
Music as Architecture: Music is framed as humanity's system for creating order and meaning from sonic chaos. It organizes, names, and classifies sound, offering maps and directions through auditory experience. Music builds bridges of meaning, structures time into comprehensible sequences, and domesticates temporal flow so it "makes sense." Fundamentally, music expresses gratitude for the recognizable, providing belonging and comfort through shared patterns and familiar structures.

Anti-Music as Invitation: Contrary to negation or rupture, anti-music is a profound expansion of sonic possibility. It doesn't destroy—it invites. This is an invitation to perceive differently, to embrace the unmapped and un-coded as valid artistic territory. Anti-music offers "foreignness not as exile, but as adventure"—a chance to be a stranger in one's own sensory experience. It presents the sublime: beauty in what escapes comprehension, abysses that aren't empty but full of strange possibilities "without baptism." Where music domesticates time, anti-music offers time without domestication. It expresses gratitude for mystery itself.

The Fertile In-Between: The work's core focus is the vibrant field existing between these poles—not a void but a charged space of becoming where the "inaudito" (unheard) insists, overflows, conspires, and expands. This recognition acknowledges that understanding is also limitation; every definition closes secret doors. Each act of comprehension loses infinite other readings.
Intuitive Reconnection: The practice seeks to reconnect with pre-lingual perception—sensing vibrations the body intuits without understanding. "In this not-understanding, I reconnect." This return to the un-codified is the core artistic act.

Unified Philosophy: Music and anti-music aren't opposing forces but symbiotic partners coexisting in the same sonic space. The work celebrates both the understood and its beyond, residing in what anti-music reveals: a "fenda linda"—a beautiful fissure in the fabric of the known, from which new ways of hearing and being emerge.

Apart from that, this platform is also the home for MostRadio: a radio podcast format to give visibility to projects in the city and discuss contemporary issues in the scene, from clubs and culture to artists and production. This media content container will also serve as a platform for disseminating new record releases.
