Sunglaciers’ music blurs the boundaries between polished melodicism and opaque experimentation, auspicious romanticism and unbridled dissent. Though anchored in the strange realities of our times, their songs are laced with a certain optimism through well-calculated psych elements and vibrant rhythms, making for a unique strand of kaleidoscopic proto-pop. Following up on critically-acclaimed full-length efforts Foreign Bodies and Subterranea, the Calgary outfit now returns with Regular Nature (March 29th, 2024 via Mothland).

Montreal-based artist Meggie Lennon’s cuddly and oniric pop – or make-out dream-pop as she likes to call it – is a delicate amalgam between chamber indie-pop et lysergic sensuality; the ideal soundtrack for voluptuous evenings that see nuptial bodies dancing, silent lips flirting and free spirits wandering. The music of this singer-songwriter exudes psychedelic perfumes, uninhibited desires and playful sins, but it also conveys a mature take on love in this era of elusive and brittle romance.

La pop onirique et caline de l’artiste montréalaise Meggie Lennon – ou make-out dream-pop comme elle se plaît à l’appeler – est un délicat amalgame entre indie-pop de chambre et sensualité lysergique; la trame idéale pour ces soirées voluptueuses où les corps se cherchent, les lèvres se frôlent et les esprits s’égarent. Les chansons de l’auteure-compositrice et interprète sont parfumées d’effluves psychédéliques, de désirs désinhibés et de péchés espiègles, tout en abordant de façon mature l’amour à l’ère des liaisons fuyantes et friables.

Karma Glider (Montréal, QC) – the new project from Heat’s frontman, Susil Sharma – proposes a modern strand of indie rock, punctuated by elements from shoegaze and post-punk. Cavernous vocal melodies, glittering guitar parts, corrugated synthesizer motifs and booming rhythmic influx are layered atop elegantly scattered samples informed by hip-hop, from which the artist draws deep inspiration. Touching on themes from juvenile zeal to spirituality, songs unfold much like landscapes distorted by raindrops through the window of a moving car that trigger contemplative musings amidst an exhilarating rush towards a vanishing point.

Gloin is a four-piece noise rock group from Toronto, Canada, known for their cathartic live sets and eclectic songwriting. Through bombastic rhythmic constructs, savvy arrangements and fervid melodies, their music spreads much like a tidal wave, positively and thoroughly flooding bystanding eardrums, the result of sheer entropic force harnessed through a “wall-of-sound Maelstrom” (Exclaim!) that is all at once jagged and sinuous.

More than an artist agency, Mothland is an extradimensional space, a frame of mind, but even more so a tight-knit family sharing new sounds, colours and textures through multiple art forms and unique events.
