When I first listened to Lisha's this work, I was completely fascinated by it. I think the vocals, lyrics, composition, and performance are all excellent, and the balance between them is wonderful.When I suddenly returned to myself, I was holding my Les Paul, and have started recording with it.

The original work released by Lisha can be thought of as a completed "acoustic version".If I think the purpose of adding and releasing my guitar playing to it is to promote and disseminate the existence of that wonderful "acoustic version".

＊If you are practicing playing the guitar, please use it to master the performance of "C # m Pentatonic Scale".I think there are several ways to practice playing the guitar with this song, this time I mainly played and recorded it using the "C # m pentatonic scale".

If the foundation is neglected, there will be no future development. Those who neglect their proficiency in the pentatonic scale and act as if they have mastered not only the pentatonic scale but also the blues scale will most hope that listeners will misunderstand that their guitar playing is good. .. It's a very dangerous adventure.

I eagerly want anyone to get out of that dangerous situation as soon as possible.Any guitar player who hasn't mastered it can't get out of the "beginner". I think.

This song has different solo performances on the single version and the album version, but it is a guitar solo called "A minor(C major) pentatonic scale textbook" from the time it was released.

Led Zeppelin --Stairway to Heaven
Even in this song, a guitar solo will appear at the end of the song. This is a solo performance using the "A minor Pentatonic Scale", which is a little more difficult than the above.

Eagles --Hotel California

The guitar playing that I layered on the original sound source is very simple. Some may say it's too simple.However, it doesn't make any sense to crush the sound of vocals and other instruments to make only the sound of the guitar.

There is no guitar solo in this attempt, and I didn't play the chords and tried to accompaniment phrases. This is because it is meaningless unless the listener can easily listen to vocals and other performances. Therefore, I think it is easier to practice the scale using the guitar.

There are quite a few artists I would like to collaborate with someday. Lisha has long been one of the representatives, and I have long waited for the opportunity to come. Recently, I have actually had the opportunity to dramatically improve the collaborative environment. Even with an already completed sound source, it is impossible to completely separate it for each instrument, but now it is possible to separate files into several major parts. 

In this work, even if the volume is set a little louder to maintain the sound quality of the guitar, the vocals are cut out from other parts, so the volume and sound quality of the vocals could be sufficiently maintained. That is one of the major backgrounds that made it possible to release this recording
(I've uploaded a version here that matches the genuine Apple earphones for the iPhone, so  it's a good idea to set up an equalizer for your listening environment).

Sometimes a lost suitcase has a more interesting journey than the traveler. I remember flying domestically in Spain and my suitcase going on an extended  journey. It was only found because I remembered my flight from Madrid to Barcelona actually continued to Cairo. After a few missteps I convinced the airline to search at Cairo International and it all ended well, but only one day before I had to leave for home. Wow, this is the 5th song posted from the album I started using demo tracks given to me by Wou-Wou & the Wormling during the start of the pandemic! This song was inspired by the conservative agenda, which at the time was more noticeably gaining momentum, to systematically whittle away and block the rights of those groups that did’t align with their values. The conservative agenda continues to gain strength, and it is up to the people to support each other in maintaining and advancing rights (including those of groups one is not a part of).

Grundomma is myself and my brother Glenn Ward. It's been a few years since we actively made music together...but now seems like a good a time as any. We live a few 1000 kms apart across Australia so this a file swapping exercise. Bongo features Glenn on rhythm programming, synths and sampling, bass and yours truly on Piano/keys. The track features samples from the 1970s/80s cult Australian Tv show Prisoner  (released in the UK and USA as Prisoner: Cell Block H)  that ended up playing in repeat on late night Tv for decades afterwards. Sometimes the synchronicities come together so perfectly, you can’t help but laugh. I’ve been working on this song for a few weeks now; a piece inspired by a charmingly snarky friend of mine, from my favorite chat group. And on the day I planned to release it, I discover it’s also our host’s birthday. So it is with great excitement that I get to dedicate this quirkiest of songs to our dear friend Eddie Shook; the host of ‘Anything Goes’ (now broadcasting on alt-Thursdays on Mixlr (http://mixlr.com/sleepy-bass-radio/); then uploaded to Mixcloud (https://www.mixcloud.com/DJMenamenasta/)). Thank you Eddie, for 4.5 fantastic years (at least, that’s when I joined in. Haha) of great music; and for introducing me to a wonderful new circle of friends. Thanks to Eddie's generosity, my music has made an appearance pretty much every week since I discovered ‘Anything Goes’. My songs are usually nestled in between a modern day band emulating the electro sounds of the 80s or 90s, and a band authentically from the 60s or 70s (the show is very diverse, as the title suggests). Two shows ago, as my latest creation was playing, Janine made the comment ‘Your music always has this Subversive Robot Leprechaun element’, and everyone in the chat room loved the comment. After a brief discussion, we concluded… I needed to make that song. And so here it is. And thank you, Janine… for being the impetus behind this one. :)

Next wonderful story. Even before I discovered ‘Anything Goes’, Carlos was already a regular attendee in chat. When I first heard his music, I was honestly overwhelmed. My ears were not prepared for his depth and breadth of instrumental skill, and his time signatures quite simply boggled my mind. But after several shows I began to see the brilliance in the structure; and after several more, I began to ask questions. Carlos is truly generous with his knowledge, and he always takes time to explain musical concepts to me. Just listening to the show, I learned so much about music theory. Recently, Carlos generously offered to teach me some music theory basics (as well as how to actually play piano), and now a whole new phase of my life has begun… at the age of 52. And after just a few lessons, I can now play several musical scales and chords (like the Minor Pentatonic scales, as well as finally understanding that whole Circle of Fifths and Fourths thingy). So thank you, thank you, thank you, my friend. I can’t put into words how exciting this is for me.

And then of course there are all the collaborative projects that have resulted from this show (and the connections that I’ve made). I’m now at 20 collaborations/remixes; all with people I discovered (or actually met) on the show… and it’s a spectacular list: Carlos, Janine, Darren and Kelley (Keldari Station), Johanna (jOjO’Star), Stoney (Stone Catcherye), Jason (Asleep with Headphones and Lazy Dada, and also the generous provider of the Mixlr account), Michael (Think Good Audio), Frank and Kara (Honor in Treason), and Cheryl and Bevan (Vague Notion). I’m honored to have met all these talented musicians, and privileged to have worked with many of them. So… many thanks to all of you as well.

So there you go, Eddie. Thank you for everything. Happy birthday, my friend. I hope you are having a wonderful day today. And I hope this quirky little song puts a smile on your face. I look forward to chatting with you again next Thursday. :)

I have been trying to play the guitar since the early 70s but even after all this time still don’t think I’m really good enough to actually call myself a guitarist.  I was lucky that there were always guitars laying around the family house and could therefore pick one up any time I wanted and strum away to myself.  Having two older brothers who were semi-pro musicians was also a big encouragement and I used to love going down to see them rehearsing with the band they were in at the time, developing a yearning to join them, whilst never believing it would actually happen.

When I moved into a place of my own, my brother Bri gifted me one of his guitars so that I could play any time I wanted.  I can’t actually remember when it occurred to me that I was actually starting to write my own songs but as I continued to play,  pleasing chord structures just seemed to emerge and I started to sing along.  Eventually, I wrote down some lyrics and gave each piece a title. It became a kind of therapy, channelling a lot of my personal and political frustrations into song but keeping it all to myself.  Fear of rejection ruled my thinking for some time.

That I managed to overcome that, tentatively recording a few songs onto cassette and sending them to Bri & Gal turned out to be one of the best things I ever did.  I’ll never forget them calling to say they thought the songs were great and that we must get together to rehearse and record them. 

So that’s how Root Division became an actual band.  We drafted in John Palmer, who had played bass in the band I used to see rehearse all those years before and soon after, there we all were in my living room, recording my songs onto Bri's four track reel-to-reel machine.  It all seems pretty stone-age now but it sounded bloody great to me.  

Those first sessions were recorded in a house on the edge of a school playing field (I was the groundsman) so we could make as much noise as we liked.  Later on, we gravitated to the attic of a house Bri was sharing, going on to record 13 songs and having a blast in the process.  The memories I have of those days still loom large in the memory.  Days full of wild ideas and even wilder laughs.  Days I will never forget.

In all the nostalgia of yesteryear, we mustn’t forget Hans Albers, who has once again produced another brilliant arrangement.  I cannot ever thank him enough for everything he brings to these songs.  Thanks to you all for listening.  Your encouragement means everything.  (Terry Reeves)
