this started out with just the guitar riff and cowbell for a click but evolved into two songs in one. first a bluesy R&B  jam with slide guitar by richard and  terrific memphis horns by guillaume which culminate in a roadhouse hoot with dirty blues harp and a wood floor boot stomp keeping time. it somehow suggested a stopover waiting for a freight train to anywhere down the line... why not a musical journey to the next stop, the berlin train station with the track rhythm of a synthy tekno beat?  two divergent genres but hopefully an interesting musical journey that disregards borders and arrives at an interesting destination.

Everything has vanished. Where are we now? In what world, in what time? Hard to tell. The house is gone, and so are our friends. After all, it's been millennia since we last saw them. Or perhaps it will be many more before we meet again.  The only thing we can be sure of is that nothing has really happened; if something had happened, we probably would have known, or noticed it.
But something will happen, surely. Sooner or later.

This is the last in a series of eight easy, acoustic, rather short and deliberately inconclusive tracks, assembled by combining new ideas with reworked older material, adding parts and sounds along the way.

This song began its life in rural Arkansas, when Chris came up with it on his acoustic guitar. He genreously shared it with us along with a treasure trove of songs some months back. This one's time has come, though. 
  The first one of us to pounce on the project was Carl, who immediately heard his melodies, and added them with the skill and passion he's known for. JJ came in next, adding his beautiful piano and dreamy organ to the song. Josh went next, still reveling in the new upright, and added it to start the rhythm section. Ken very skillfully matched Josh's groove and added his drums soon after to complete the rhythm section. If anyone has any idea how hard it is to add drums to an acoustic tune that's already recorded, you'll appreciate Ken's work in here doubly, because he got the swing down perfectly. 
  All that remained was for Tez to juice it up with his trademark thrilling guitar solo. When it was finally complete, we asked Stephen to mix it for us, which he did in his always pro way. 
  This is just the latest, but not the last, song written by Mr. Maness. We all love his music, and consider it among the best on any of our pages. This was definitely a team effort, though, as the song was simply an acoustic guitar part when we got a hold of it. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we all enjoyed creating it.

So on Christmas Nite of 2024  (which was also the First Nite of Hanukkah), a Song came to me literally out of Nowhere that I ended up recording at the beginning of last year (2025) called “The City Of Magically” ( https://soundcloud.com/user-321467328/the-city-of-magically)
As crazy as it may sound, I was sort of hoping a similar occurrence would transpire again this past Christmas of 2025 ~ & somehow it actually magically Did :-)
These two songs have a bit of a theme & the beginning of a little storyline so I’ll be pairing them together ~~
This one in particular is Literally the Most “Sugary" Song I have Ever written / recorded ~~
Not actually sure what to even think of it myself, but I recorded it as exactingly as I could to how it came to me ~~
No One is going to convince me that my Beautiful Late Mom didn’t  somehow have something to do with all of this , Especially as she was like Light Itself ~~

Another track that was written  during the first Trump term. The issue then was horrific treatment of people trying to cross the border -- many of them people like the mother in this song, who were desperate to protect their  children from violence. Typically they would endure life threatening conditions in the journey with both natural and human elements  conspiring to do them harm. Now we have cruel treatment all over again but this time it's also being applied to citizens and those who have legal status to be in the country. You draw the through line forward...

I have always enjoyed being a Dad but things do change so incredibly fast.  One moment you’re getting them ready for school and in seemingly double-quick time, they’re all grown up, with all of the problems the transition into adulthood inevitably entails.  They acquire ‘significant others’, some of whom you like and some you’re pretty sure are never going to make the cut.  From a distance, you look on with increasing interest, watching them struggle with the intricacies of romantic involvement.
This song involves the machinations of my youngest son’s relationship with one particular girlfriend, who seemed to have an issue with any form of commitment.  Sometimes she’d show up out of the blue, wanting to spend every moment with him, then disappear into the ether and not contact him for days.
He and I had quite a few Father to Son conversations about her, primarily because we were both concerned about her mental wellbeing.  He’d try to contact her to check if everything was alright, often without success.  Then, without warning, she’d be back on the scene, the whole merry-go-round starting all over again.  I did my level best to help but she truly was an enigma and I was never really sure if what I had to say was helping the situation.  As with many such tricky equations in life, no obvious solution came to light and things slowly ground to a halt.  To this day, though, he says she was one of the most confusing people he ever met.
As is my habit, I decided to write a song about her, calling it ‘Take’ because it was an anagram of her name (by all means have a guess…), hoping to delineate the complexities of the things she both said and did.  Gal really loved the song and going through a marriage break-up as he was at the time, asked if he could contribute a few lines to the lyrics as a way of describing the bewilderment he was feeling, which proved an interesting window into his thinking.
Our brilliant engineer Nick thought slowing it down would give it a kind of Massive Attack feel, an approach that suited it to a tee.  But we needed something else, something magical in the mix, so Gal suggested asking our good friend Steph Laporte (‘DDJohn’ to his SC friends) to record a lead break along with some additional, extra-slurpy licks on his clarinet.  Steph is a wonderful player and as I’m sure you’ll agree, his contribution proved exactly what was needed.  It’s a real favourite of mine - so different from anything we’ve done before.  By the way, anyone worked out that anagram yet?  (Terry Reeves)

I sent him a copy of the penultimate mix and he was good enough to return a detailed list of possible adjustments, all of which were entirely spot-on and made the job of getting the final mix completed in the allotted hour very achievable, something in some doubt but for his assistance.
