If talent converted into record sales, David Moufang would be a very rich man. His records with partner Jonas Grossmann as Deep Space Network and his own solo releases as Move D are among the furthest outreaches of techno's push towards the stars. Moufang grew up in Heidelberg listening to his parents' collection of early Pink Floyd and Kraftwerk records but the most overwhelming influence on his childhood was outer space, the result of a trip to the cinema with his father to see 2001: A Space Odyssey. "I was space crazy as a child," Moufang told journalist Tony Marcus in 1995, "when the other kids were riding around in their little cars I'd be building my own spacecraft. I'd put in a small engine, put rubber on the wheels so it made some noise and stand there with a walkie-talkie and my headphones on. It was very techno..."

フランス、パリを活動拠点とし、フレンチディープハウスの新時代を築いているDjebali。
ここ数年、イビザオンシーズンの約3ヶ月間はトップクラブDC10のレジデントとしてイビザで過ごしてもいる。
彼はDan Ghenaciaにその才能を見出されると、独自のロウでブギーな跳ねるサウンドとずばぬけたミックスセンスを武器に、2008年から2010年パリのREXを軸にFreak 'n Chic@Batofarでのレジデンシーを務めた。
2011年には厳選された自らのトラックだけをリリースするヴァイナルレーベル"(djebali)"を立ち上げ、その良質なシリーズはアー ティストの中で高い評価を得ている。それと並行し、自らがオーガナイズ、レジデントを務めるSocial Clubで開催している“Ideal Juice”には毎回、彼自身がチョイスしたゲストアーティストを招き、オーディエンスを唸らせるクオリティーパーティーを続けている。

A club kid in Paris in the early 00s and inspired by great artists of the time Dan Ghenacia, Ivan Smagghe, Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano, Djebali was ultimately drawn into life, first gracing the decks of a club in 2001. Since then he has evolved into an accomplished house producer, launching his self-titled imprint in 2011 and making his Circoloco debut on the Terrace at DC10 Ibiza.

Developing a taste for deep and groovy house, Djebali cut his teeth at some of the finest hangouts in Paris, first backed by Terence:Terry: at the hyped After Party Is Not A Crime nights, before making numerous appearances at Rex Club and holding a residency at the Freak n’Chic Batofar parties between 2008 and 2010. Further afield, Djebali has brought his bounce and charisma to the likes of the forever legendary Bar25, Circoloco DC10, Space Ibiza, Harry Klein, Sankeys, Vertigo Costa Rica, Gipsy Moscow… alongside influential names including Seth Troxler, Tania Vulcano, Visionquest and Christian Burkhardt.

On the production front, Djebali caught the attention of none other than Jay Haze. Totally charmed by Djebali’s warm and fluid style, his first EP ‘Fanfare’ was released on Jay’s label Tuning Spork in 2008. Releases on Freak n’Chic followed, the inaugural label of quality Parisian house talent, delivering his 4 track ‘LAX EP’ to wide critical acclaim. With ‘Sorry, I Missed The Sky’, Djebali further cemented his signature smooth, organic house sound.

2011 saw the launch of ( djebali ), a limited vinyl series of only his music, produced, arranged and mixed exclusively on analogue gears. Currently on release 07, the independent creative outlet can boast this is house music as fresh as it comes, hot from the studio straight onto ( djebali ) wax. Also appearing as a remixer for Jozif on Culprit LA and Inland Knights for Homecoming Music, there’s reworks to look forward to later this year for Jef K’s Silver Network, Politics of Dancing and Turquoise Blue.

Pushing the scene forward in his hometown, Djebali has brought the likes of The Mole, Premiesku, dOP, Maayan Nidam, Bill Patrick and the highly talented Martinez Bros to Paris for his residency party Ideal Juice part 1 at Social Club. As always he continues as an international player with gigs taking him as far afield as Womb Tokyo to Kazantip, whilst summer 2013 saw Djebali relocating once again to the White Isle, sure to be found at his beloved DC10 Ibiza. With Ideal Juice part 2 now held at Rex Club, and 2 new sub labels Djebali Reworks and Djebali presents 2014 is set to be even busier.

Bart Skils at Awakenings Festival 2014, Day One (June 28th)

We kicked off Paper in 1994 with PAP001 Salt City Orchestra’s The Book and are now up to PAPDLS175.  In the meantime there have been sub labels (Repap / We Are Woodville / Def Drive / Paper Disco), club nights (Robodisco / Paper parties / Trash The ….) foreign tours (New Zealand / Japan / Portugal, Australia), lifelong friendships forged, marriages, deaths and births.  During all that, except for a break from 2003 – 2009 when we went away and re-grouped we’ve been putting out music that we love the whole time.  

Dance music has changed massively from those early naive wide-eyed DIY days when everything was "house" or "techno" in to the global phenomenon it is today with hundreds of splintered sub-genres. When we started we were the new thing and hip in places we had barely even heard of but now are inevitably part of the establishment and a long way from the cutting edge.  But with a new generation of artists we are hopefully still releasing relevant quality dance music with the recognizable Paper sound.

On doing the mix I chose to cover only the singles and do so in chronological order by year (which can be followed in the comments).  This means that some mixes are more successful than others (!) but gives a taste of how Paper has developed.  There are some glaring omissions of tracks and artists that were hugely important to the label (Problem Kids / Pa Pa Washington Trio / Reset) but with 39 hours and 53 minutes of music to choose from it’s inevitable that some favourite moments were missed.  Maybe I'll try and get them on the 25 years anniversary mix!

Anyway, we're very proud of what Paper has done and will continue doing what we do so thanks for helping us along!
