The inspiration for this challenge comes from the avant-garde FLUXUS movement. Artists including Yoko Ono, Dick Higgins, Alison Knowles and George Brecht, pioneered what they called event scores – simple instructions that could be performed by anyone. The second movement of Knowles’ “Bean Piece” instructed the performer to “deliberately spill the beans”, while another by La Monte Young called for the player to “draw a straight line and follow it”. The point of these “little illuminations”, as Young called them, was to blur the barrier between art and everyday life, to demonstrate that the world – and your apartment – is already making music. Let’s call it … ‘house music’.


While my fridge did not make any sounds, instead it was having some lazy time during this Sunday morning, the only consistent sound came from my grandma’s-clock … tick-tock … … which became the tempo of this track. 

Finally, while recording me, pretending being a clock … the fridge started to make some noise. A repeatedly, humming sound with scratchy-like peaks. To imitate this sound, I used a deep tuned viola, scratching the C-String with the back of the bow in a rotating manner. … to complete this challenge, I added the fridge’s door opening sound, recorded the air pressure thing of the deep freezer while closing this door, a down cooling kettle, and of course that clock’s bells. I used EQ, Pitch, Warp and Panning

E.N.D.E. is an Essen based drum and bass, dub and techno band consisting of four highly skilled and versatile musicians creating a sound which easily let’s you believe there are ten people on stage. They play usually electronically produced music in an acoustic and improvised live context always reading and feeling, what the audience wants and going with the flow of the dancing crowd.
Wild and tight drumming of virtuoso Simon Camatta meets dubby and wobbly FX-pumped Bass of Moritz Anthes. This pumping rhythm section is spiced with the nearly endless wicked and sick sounds, patterns, samples and ideas of Max Wehner on the trombone and Este Kirchhoff on ever changing weird guitar or lapsteel setups.
