Born in Quito, Ecuador, Daniel Lofredo Rota comes from a lineage of
migrants which through various routes ended up settling in Ecuador. He
is a sonic explorer by nature and his musical practice centres around
exploring peripheral territories and interlinking them with global currents, methods, and possibilities. He is the producer of Quixosis, and also the manages También, and ambient label focused on bringing experimental ambient music from Latin America to a global audience. He is also the curator and lead investigator of the upcoming CAIFE records Reissue series which will be published on Honest Jon’s records in 2021, which focuses on a catalog of lost ecuadorian music on analog tapes, that were found by him in 2013.

Esta mezcla es un viaje sonoro a través del tiempo, el espacio y percusiones hacia los orígenes espirituales de la música afrolatina. Desde el llamado de apertura del pregonero a "abrir camino" a la rumba cubana y los cantos de orishas, a los ritmos folclóricos afrobrasileños y de las antillas, trazamos una compleja red de influencias y tradiciones, delineadas por las antiguas rutas de comercio de esclavos, de vuelta al Africa que los dieron a luz. Después de descender por la costa atlántica de Colombia, bastión de los sonidos del carnaval y de Palenque (el legendario pueblo formado por cimarrones o esclavos escapados en el siglo XVII), cerramos el círculo con el mítico "Yiri Yiri Boum" de Gnonnas Pedro, originalmente compuesto por el rey de la percusión el Cubano Silvestre Méndez, creador de la "Oriza".

This mix is a sonic journey through time, space and drums into the spiritual origins of Afro-Latin music. From the opening call of the pregonero to “abre camino” into Cuban rumba and Orisha chants, to Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Antillean folkloric rhythms, we trace a complex web of influences and traditions, outlined by slave trading routes, back to the African shores that birthed them. After swooping through the Atlantic coast of Colombia, bastion of carnaval sounds and of Palenque (the legendary village formed by cimarrones or escaped slaves in the 17th century), we come full circle with Gnonnas Pedro’s mythic “Yiri Yiri Boum”, originally composed by Cuban percussion king Silvestre Mendez, originator of the “Oriza”.

Being able to be assumed as the most radical humankind's intervention in the landscape, the city is generically a cluster of buildings, processes and people. According to United Nations, almost two-thirds of the world's population will live in cities by 2050. Thus, cities are the places where people live most of the time, but they should not be understood only as material urban heritage, otherwise, where would the driving forces coming from solidarity social relations fit in? Modestly, we took the theme of cities as an incentive to venture into the real world experiences and to celebrate the label's fifth year anniversary date. The compilation maintains the weekly release format and has three sub-themes: 'manhã' (morning), 'tarde' (afternoon) and 'noite' (night). Each one bringing the interpretations of the artists to the different situations of the city as the activities unfold during a whole day.

To a limited extent, humans depend on cities for the civilizing process. The space where people move, whether by car or on foot, is the dizzying essence of all this cultural dimension that allows the humanization of cities. It is the space where we meet, where we dream, where we sit, where we talk, where we express ourselves collectively. Stage for everyday life and also for funerals, processions, demonstrations, big parties. The joys and pains are inside the houses but they also have their projections flying over the cities, stimulating diverse movements towards the union of contrasting communities. Therefore, the compilation's intentions are focused on the nuances between Urbanism, Anthropology, Urban Sociology and any themes that we have omitted here for lack of words or knowledge.

When getting the chance to get away from the hectic race of the day, nighttime is the right time for some and in the cities is a judgment free-zone. Perceptive, mysterious; darkness gives people a way to hide from the prying eyes of others, even if at home or in the urban fabric. Also, gives people an intense desire to walk out, hanging out and nightclubbing as a form of escapism from everyday life. During the late night, the city is quiet with a stillness in the air. Without all the bustle and noise, occasional silence, lullabies to the tired eyes. We rest our heads in pillows every night, sometimes with regrets and sometimes proud to do what we have done. Meanwhile, in homeopathic doses, the city weaves under the influence of dreams a tangle of pressing real life responsibilities that need to be fulfilled before the morning sun rises. Dream, baby dream!

Deep electronic explorations in this week’s mix from the wonderful producer https://soundcloud.com/enlabarda weaving in folkloric influences from her native lands and beyond. Featuring sublime cuts from the likes of Frikstailers, Numa Gama, Uji, Tribilin Sound, Tremor and many more, as well as several exclusive tracks from Barda herself. 

Barda is Cecilia Gebhard, music composer and DJ from Buenos Aires, Argentina. In her music she fuses sonic beatmaking with melodies, synthwaves and rhythmic patterns that can be influenced by folklore or world music as well as electronic music. She grew up in the Argentinian Patagonia, surrounded by pumas, foxes, dessert, rivers, lakes and the beauty of the natural world. She is also cites Leda Valladares and Maria Elena Walsh (pictured in the artwork) as huge inspirations and indeed Leda appears in one of the tracks in the mix alongside a stack of unreleased Barda gems.

Uma mistura de samba com eletronico, MPB e house gera uma peculiaridade chamada "Vem Pra Mim". A música faz parte do projeto Transa pelo produtor Paulus com vocais de Bruna Regina. A intenção do projeto é misturar aquilo que é Brasil com referências externas e criar ritmos latinos desconstruídos. Nesse som encontramos rebolo, kazzo, violão, repinique e pandeiro guiados por ambiências de mar.

O artista visual Gabriel Engster, que assina a nova série de capas pelo projeto @a.la.gabs.art, partiu de referências imagéticas de cactos e partes do corpo como inspiração para os desenhos, para então abstraí-los em múltiplas composições experimentais de arte gráfica correlacionadas às sonoridades de cada lançamento.



A mix of samba with electronic, MPB and house generates a peculiarity called "Vem Pra Mim". The song is part of the Transa project by producer Paulus with vocals by Bruna Regina. The intention of the project is to mix what is Brazil with external references and create deconstructed Latin rhythms. In this sound we find rebolo, kazzo, guitar, repinique and tambourine guided by sea environments.

Visual artist Gabriel Engster, who signs the new series of covers for the @ a.la.gabs.art project, started with imagery references of cacti and body parts as inspiration for the drawings, and then abstracted them into multiple experimental compositions of graphic art correlated to the sounds of each release.

In Mazunte, January 8, 2018. During a getaway on the Mexican Pacific coast, El Gato Negro, the eternal adventurer, meets a new fortune friend, Don Mescal, another traveler of modern times and co-founder of Montreal label Cosmovision records. During a Mayan ceremony, Don Mescal is struck by a cosmic illumination: he hears, embraces and feels the feline entities coming from the sky… At dawn, he understands that the album remix of the exotic black cat had to come to life.
Back in Quebec and to reality, Mescal quickly opens his doors to bring together the greatest gurus of the world-tropical scene. To orchestrate his vision, he welcomes artists from Argentina, Canada, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Guatemala, under the benevolent eye of Guts.

 Este set, contiene entonces, samba Brasileña con uno de sus mayores exponentes: Carlota, música cabo verdiana por el productor DJ/MC Rocky Marsiano, desde Brasil el Colectivo Rádio Cipó provenientes de Belém do Pará con este sonido urbano y rural estridente y muy poderoso, Brazilian boys feat. Ce´Cile canción del sello discográfico mad decent que ha ayudado a la difusión del baile funk brasileño y el kuduro angoleño en diferentes clubes. Siguiendo con este recorrido y como muchos de los sonidos buenos que se cocinan en Grecia tenemos ha NOMÅGIK’s  con esta mezcla de  la canción Manitoumani que cuenta la historia de encontrarse entre dos mundos Francia y Mali. Black coffee DJ y productor sudafricano de gran trayectoria y reconocimiento una bomba y eminencia, Lycox, Dj, productor y vocalista desde Paris con el sello de Lisboa principe discos.  Dentro de una gran selección sonará también Huambo 93 haciendo referencia a la guerra civil Angola  en el año 93 del DJ N.K histórico productor  de música Afro, tema recopilado en EMBA vol. 1  por el colectivo Moto Kiatu residentes en la ciudad de Madrid y fieles exponentes y difusoras de la música Africana  y haciendo referencia a ese navegar entre guerras y fiesta paso a MC LOMA cantante y compositora brasilera quien obtuvo un gran reconocimiento en las fiestas de río de Janerio del 2018 con este tema. Jennifer Dias Francesa con raices de Cabo Verde con el tema Roçare una mixtura entre Tarraxinha, Kizomba y funk. Temazo para ir cerrando y recién cocinado por los  grandes The Busy Twist con la voz de la bella Alewya y con una  influencia de sonidos Africanos e Ingleses, este tema para sudar hasta el amanecer. Termina con Bolo e leite que podría ser un tema afro house con kuduro de Scro Qui Cuai producido por Afro - Digital.
