FFF always comes with the heat with his unique blend of choppy beats and dual sensibility. The perfect combination of light and dark culminating in a profusion of emotions and euphoric whiplash. Now the Rotterdam junglist makes the step up to heavyweight with his debut on Lobster Theremin, featuring four club-ready cuts.

Title track ‘One Tribe’ builds slowly in anticipation, teasing listeners before being thrown into a cascade of fire. Gnarling synths, nausinating drums and hypnotic vocals acting as the source to create a kinetic, chemical reaction. ‘So Special’ radiates joy as it moves through sound systems with a spring in it’s step; followed up by a magnetic acid switch during the track's second half.

FFF’s music finds the balance between classic sounds with a flare for the enigmatic. ‘It’s Official’ rides a steady 4x4 beat with one of the most ecstatic piano rolls and vocal cuts you’re likely to hear all summer; before being shown the door to an alternate world. The EP comes to a close with ‘Weak Capacity’ a caffeine-charged rhythm inspired by the rave.

Gimme A Break Records is extremely excited to present its first vinyl release featuring four talented Leeds-based producers. With the support of the charitable music initiative Launchpad, through both mentoring and funding, alongside physical and digital distribution with Lobster Theremin we are delighted to continue to represent and support the forward-thinking electronic music coming out of the North of England. The record’s A-side features a funk-influenced number from Bakey who continues to develop his distinctive sound off the back of his sensational releases on Shall Not Fade’s sub-label Time Is Now and recent collaboration with Sam Binga and Redders. Following his outstanding debut EP on Ba Dum Tish, Papa Nugs’ ‘Honey’ sustains his characteristically playful sampling, accompanied by crunchin g UKG rhythms and wobbling basslines. On the flip side, ANSZA, previously releasing on ec2a, provides a powerful garage number with percussive breaks interspersed on the track’s second drop. Finally, Phasmid’s ‘Deadpan’, featuring the producer’s signature lilting hats, epitomises the sound being pushed in the current UKG/Breaks crossover.

Appreciated for music that Len Lewis himself qualfies as Sinister Techhouse, shortly SiTh, the Londoner started to dedicate his life entirely to music a couple of months ago, after he had taken a break for nearly 15 years from the scene. Coming back even stronger Len, meanwhile matured due to personal changes and made experiences as a (music) teacher, has released music on Drifted Records, Banoffee Pie's Black Label series, Real Deal Records, Discobar or Druzhba after his return. However, the artist to the core loves to create and produce rather experimental music during his studio sessions too, with some even containing his own vocals. For the latest art:cast Len Lewis compiled a mix that consists of own music only with the beforementioned characterists putting the tracks smoothly together to create something unique and never heard before – maybe with a short hint to SiTh, or at least the darkness that is covered by the term. Anyway, Len's approach to the art:cast series is not merely personal but in fact the most artistical way as he provides us with insights from what happens behind the closed studio doors when he is not working on music that is or has been released on the labels mentioned.

Michael Mayer’s latest EP, Brainwave Technology, comes at you purposeful, stealthy and sly. It’s a glorious left turn for the redoubtable producer, one that sees his typically lean and lithe productions buffed to a metallic, futurist sheen. There’s a gleam in the eyes of tracks like “Brainwave Technology” and “Alpha” that speaks of serious fun, of the intersection of the pleasure zone and the frontal lobe.

“Brainwave Technology” itself is informed by Mayer’s deep dive into the thorny terrain of artificial intelligence, transhumanism and posthumanism. Inspired by reading German philosopher Richard David Precht, Mayer found himself heading down the “proverbial rabbit hole,” as he describes it, “watching hours of YouTube material by self-proclaimed prophets of these ‘inevitable’ changes to come.” Never one to be taken in by the egotist’s dance, Mayer’s cynicism about the whole endeavour is tempered, a little, by the deeper questions that these figures gesture towards: “Is it really an evolutionary step that man and machine become one? Or is it rather a marketing plot by Silicon Valley billionaires?”

On “Brainwave Technology”, Mayer plays the charlatans at their own game, turning their logic against them by exposing the fruitiness of their ‘visions’. “I chose irony as my sword with which I chopped off some quotes from some of those batshit crazy prophets and self-promoters,” he explains of the drooling psychobabble he drops in the track’s lacuna. There’s a sense of humour here – how could you not laugh at these hungover egotists? – but there’s levity too, a sense that Mayer’s using sound to expose the contradictions and double-speak at the heart of these half-formed ideas. It’s a Burroughsian tactic, to slice into the heart of the voice to see what hidden truths surface.

It was Burroughs, too, who once said that “when you cut into the past, the future leaks out”; Brainwave Technology cuts into the logic of the futurologist to leak out the messiness of modern reality. On “Alpha” and “Gamma”, Mayer seems to conjure up the stark, ominous music that’d soundtrack a science fiction reinterpretation – or preinterpretation – of our modern malaise, all funereal wreaths of electronic noise and clatterboxing beats. As the EP resolves with “Device For The Young At Heart”, Mayer’s questions are piling up: “Do we want to become immortal and live on as a download? Do we really give up on Earth and put all our effort into colonising Mars?” There are no answers, of course, but plenty of imaginings-to-be. Brainwave Technology soundtracks both dystopian and utopian possibilities of what could come next.

Founded back in 1996 by Felix Dickinson & Tony Lee Ugly Music has always captured House- and Techno music's momemtum still remaining true to the origin of the music by providing their followers as well as music enthusiasts with classy releases that have a classic note. And Ugly Music has managed to remain true to their style, even after 25 years of putting out music and dedicating themselves to what the label is passionate about – maybe that's the label's formula of success, maybe it's just knowledge, experience and the love for music. However, Ugly Music rings in the third season of 2021 with a stellar four tracker from UK's finest Sir Lord Comixx that goes by the name of Play Loud, Be Proud. The EP definitely does exactly what it says on tin and when following the instructions from its title. The A2, After The Sun Fades, seemingly is a dedication to the blue hour of the day and all its beauty. A tapping bass line is shortly after it's first beat provided wih an irresistable synth-line and pushing hi-hats that makes the listener loses him-/herself in those chords. And even if Sir Lord Comixx only uses little effects and the track itself is basically built around the synth-line, After The Sun Fades is close to perfection or maybe it is, because it is not an overloaded track and just focuses on what's important.

Exclusive: Will Saul - Avalon

Aus Music-founder Will Saul’s Avalon track is not to be missed as AVA. Records, co-run by Damiano von Erckert, rings in their musical festivities for the 10th anniversary with a compilation, that contains contributions from the who-is-who of the House scene, among them Move D, Cinthie, Jus-Ed, Ron Trent, Damiano himself and Saul. The latter’s track is the first release after his Your Time Is Up EP in 2020 on his own imprint and therefore highly anticipated - with good reasons and correctly as Will Saul does not disappoint. Avalon does not only convince because of its spaced out cosmic chord sequences that burn themselves deeper and deeper into the listener’s mind as the track proceeds, but it’s the combination of the synth- and the break-esque bass line that makes the take so emotive and guarantees addictivity.

The energy from Manolo across all creative fronts resonated super strongly with our mantra at Refuge, an almost no nonsense approach to his art. 'We Praise' hits all those notes with its snappy drums and quality sampling technique. This record for us feels very old, in such a new way. Classic elements with a modern spin definitely sums up Manolo for us.

Recruiting Jesusdapnk with his jackin', raw and upfront sound. He adds a late night attitude to the pack with a remix that will strive in the after hours spots. Moody and hypnotic, it's one of those records you strap in for the ride. Jesusdapnk has been floating in our sets for some time and it made sense to welcome him to the family.

Moving Pictures is an idea that spilled from our minds — the minds of two artists — in 2018, and it’s a meeting point of shared passion.

We have cultivated, shaped and grown that concept through our common efforts over time to create an independent record label for electronic music based in the heart of Prague, Czechia.

We aspire to put out captivating and emotionally charged sound, and our specific creative process and shared belief in a DIY approach are at the heart of our label’s philosophy.

Creating a firm connection between the sonic and aesthetic elements of the releases we work with is of great importance to us, and no details are overlooked during this process. We take deep pleasure and pride creating and refining the concept at the core of each release, and there is a deep-rooted connection between the music and visuals of Moving Pictures. Each of these elements mutually inspires the other.
