The sun rises in the east.... it is a meteorological certainty but also an attitude, a feeling rooted in our East German childhood, a sense of belonging. Anyone who knows our very own, native-born Görlitzer Jan and his productions understands that he feels the same way, and he transports it via his music. Warm bass lines, playful percussions and catchy vocals are his forte. You'll get the love and the passion, but non of the fussy stuffed toys and other hullabaloo. Jan's proven himself with releases on Tieffrequent and Kassette Records, and he is an established member of Berlin's Palms & Flamingos crew. His latest track "Wrong Number" was released on O*RS and was featured in the Boiler Room as a debute.

What do you do when you are a young music-lover living in a small east-german town during the 90’s and nothing, absolutely nothing is going on around you? Well… you do exactly what everyone else would – you create your own musical universe. 

Jan Ketel’s musical journey started in Görlitz at the age of 20 with Hip-Hop, Dope Beatz and radio-shows from the UK who got him interested in House music. He quickly made a name for himself and the very special mixture of slamming yet soulful music he played as a DJ. This gave him the opportunity to be a resident-DJ and booker at Club Nostromo until 2011 – a club that, according to some, during that time was Saxony’s Berghain. 

As a producer, Ketel has released his organic house-cuts on labels such as CAJUAL, O*RS and TIEFFREQUENT, getting love from the likes of SLAM, MAYA JANE COLES, HUNEE, RICHY AHMED and the BOILERROOM-crew, who featured his tune ”Wrong Number“ on BOILER ROOM DEBUTS. And, since his musical vision needed a proper platform, he founded the House-focused OURSELVES -label in 2016. 
Lately Jan has been working together on tracks and projects with his bromie Siggatunez.

Today, after having played such illustruous places as BAR 25 and WATERGATE (Berlin), PRATERSAUNA (Vienna), or the DISTILLERY (Leipzig), Jan Ketel is bustling with creativity and stuffing his production-pipeline – well, you know… musical universes are endless. And the only thing that lets you explore them are an idea, and a phat square-bass.

n.o.k., die Story eines Jungen, der in die Welt der musikalischen Höhen und Tiefen auszog, um seinen Platz darin zu finden. Aufgewachsen in den 90ern sammelte er bis dato alle aus den Lautsprechern der örtlichen Radiowellen purzelnden Noten auf. Er schlug sich durch die wilden Vibez von Hip Hop, wurde von den beschaulich anzuhörenden Lianen des Reggae umschlungen, surfte locker auf der Welle des Euro Dance und fand Anfang 2000 das Finale seiner musikalischen Reise hinter den Turntables, transformierte seine Begeisterung für Musik in ein tief pochendes Bedürfnis, in Herzblut.

Auf seinem erlebnisreichen Weg wurde er frühzeitig durch Radio- & TV Formate wie HR3, Clubnight, 2Step, Fritz Nightflight u.v.m. inspiriert und seine Sensibilität für elektronische Musik wach geküsst, wie Dornröschen von ihrem Prinzen. Als er wenige Monate später auf einer Party im Görlitzer Club Nostromo seine erste Platte von dem House/Electronic DJ Jazzman geschenkt bekam, war es um unseren jungen Reisenden geschehen.

Seitdem bereichert er die Plattenteller dieser Clubs mit Deephouse, House, Dub und Techno, lässt nach und nach selbst produzierte Tracks ins unbekannte Leben hinaus strömen, sorgt mit treibendem Sound für ausgelassen tanzende Fabelwesen.

Und wenn er nicht selbst gerade auf dem Dancefloor rockt, dann legt er uns auch noch heute mitreißende Tunes und nimmt uns mit auf seine Reise durch die elektronischen Klangwelten.

n.o.k. - it’s the story of a boy who travelled through the world of musical ups and downs trying to find himself. Growing up in the 90ies he has been collecting every tone coming out of the local radio waves boxes. He struggled with the wild vibes of hip hop, got caught by the introspective lianes of reggae, surfed loosely on the waves of Euro Dance and finally found his musical journey’s end behind the turntables at the beginning of 2000. He transformed his enthusiasm for music into a deeply pulsing need – into passion.

On his adventurous way he got inspired by radio and TV formats like HR3, Clubnight, 2Step, Fritz Nightflight and many more awaking his sensitivity for electronic music. It was all up with him the moment he was given his first disk record by House/Electronic DJ Jazzman at Club Nostromo a few months later.

Since then he has been enriching the turntables of many clubs with his selection of Deephouse, House, Dub and Techno. Little by little few of his own tracks flow into the unknown life causing wildly dancing mythical creatures by that impulsive sound.

And when he’s not burning the dancefloor himself, n.o.k. and his tunes still take us today on a trip down electronic sound lane.
