The strong influence of the English band The Prodigy is evident here, especially from their album The Fat of the Land. When The Prodigy released The Fat of the Land in 1997, it was a shock. Everyone was well adapted to the industrial genre by then -- NIN had released their debut album Pretty Hate Machine more than a decade earlier. However, TFOTL became a legendary electronic music album for its rawness and brutality. The single Smack My Bitch Up faced boycotts from record stores, the music video was censored on MTV, but the song reached the top of the charts in more than 20 countries, including the US and UK. In 2020, Metal Hammer magazine (a renowned heavy metal publication) included FOTL in its list of the 10 best albums of 1997. Not enough, Rolling Stone featured FOTL in its list of "Essential Recordings of the 90s" and it is also one of the "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die".

The influence of The Fat of the Land on my musical formation at this time is indisputable. It was during this same period that I bought my first physical sampler (Akai Emu E4X Turbo) and started mixing electronic music (techno, dnb, jungle, electro) with underground genres (rock, punk, heavy metal) and more traditional styles (classical music, jazz, new age, pop).

'Fallen Star' is one of our very early songwriting ideas that roots on slow rock kind of vibes. Almost a decade later we've decided to produce this song, along with the vocal. Many attempts of the vocal style were failed to deliver the exact nuance that we've imagined. Seems like the whispery vocal style fits this track the most. A standard 1-6-2-5 progression found often in R&B except I did a tritone substitution at the end for some progressions. Also did some half step distancing for the diminished chords sometimes. There is a gospel guitar rhythm for the hook. For lead, there is my new favorite scale the Hindu scale, Dorian b2, as well as Lydian #2. Also superimposed the organ for the first 2 chords of the hook. There is also a printer and chair sound being sampled. 

Here are the lyrics with a few annotations: Basically about a disgruntled office worker.
