The young MC from Los Angeles, CA represents the jazzy 90s rap sound like no one else in 2023. Not only on the Westcoast but internationally. Kid Abstrakt is keeping the legacy of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul & The Pharcyde alive and relevant by using it as a source of inspiration to tell his own story. 

Kid Abstrakt started out as part of local trio Revolutionary Rhythm before releasing his first album “Daydreaming” in 2017, produced by The Deli from Austin, Texas. With a growing fanbase overseas Kid Abstrakt started working with producers and bands like Cap Kendricks (Germany), Emapea (Poland) and Jazzbois (Hungary).

“Still Dreaming” - his new album for Melting Pot Music - is entirely produced by Leo Low Pass from Amsterdam. Leo's signature sound of jazzy boom-bap and Lofi beats provides the perfect backdrop for Abs positive and skillful rhymes. One could easily dismiss “Still Dreaming” as a throwback album with a sound that is somehow stuck in the past. Kid Abstrakt’s love for that jazzy boom-bap is all over the place. He even raps about it - with the same passion and humbleness that he raps about his life, his family and the world we are living in today. That's why we rather call “Still Dreaming” feelgood music that doesn't suck.

Italian jazz beat capo Koralle teams up with boom bap beats legend Figub Brazlevič for new single ‘Train 2 Moabit’, taken from Koralle’s frothcoming album ‘Insomnia’. ‘Insomnia’ will be out on July 28th (LP & digital), and features a bunch of brilliant rappers, producers, and musicians.

Renowned crate digger, respected producer and talented DJ, Chris Read has been releasing and compiling music on BBE for some years, both as a solo artist and with electronic soul outfit Maylight. Created alongside Chicago rapper and vocalist Pugs Atomz, 'Colours Of The World', started life when the latter was in London recording and touring with BBE label- mate and mutual friend DJ Vadim's group The Electric. Initially collaborating on just two tracks which were both featured on Chris Read's 2015 retrospective 'All Night', the pair continued to work remotely after Pugs returned to his native Chicago, enlisting several guest vocalists and musicians from the area.
A true hip hop renaissance man, Pugs Atomz has travelled the world several times over, always making a big impression thanks to his energetic stage performances, forward-thinking attitude and highly relatable lyrics. Mix-tape maestro and curator at whosampled.com, Chris Read's beat-making credentials simply cannot be overstated. 'Colours Of The World' lays out solid boom-bap beats while making use of obscure jazz fragments to create dazzling sonic mosaics; smooth, sumptuous and soulful throughout. Pugs' dextrous flow switches seamlessly between classic rap styles and more abstract, 'OutKast-esque' vocal acrobatics. Made in the image of progressive, life-affirming 90's hip hop and containing a unique blend of UK/US influences, 'Colours Of The World' is almost as nostalgic as it is original.

Written and performed with vocalist/keyboardist Amp Fiddler (Parliament/Funkadelic, Was Not Was, Mahogani Music) and Dames Brown (a all-female vocal trio), The One is an album that tells the story of a man’s search for the love of his life, and the trials and tribulations that surround their budding romance within the city of Detroit.

Stylistically the album has roots that go deep into late-70’s progressive funk, soul and boogie, with layers of live/electronic drums and percussion, funky synth and slap bass lines, snappy guitars, classic analog synths, Fender Rhodes, Clavinet, tight horns, and lush string arrangements, all accompanied by the vocal stylings of Amp and the Dames.
