Rising alternative R&B artist KeepVibesNear is blessing us with his new single ‘SRS’. It’s also the final taster of his upcoming EP “Now That We Know.”, to be released on September 3rd.

The 22-year-old singer describes ‘SRS’ as “a song that is quite special to me. ‘SRS’ is one of the first songs me and Harvey made after meeting almost two years ago now. I wrote it when I was in a strange time in my life.” The single is once again produced by London-based producer and rapper Harvey Whyte who has recently laced tracks for the likes of Greentea Peng and Fatima and runs his own label, Studio 117.

“This song helped me realise what I was feeling at that time even maybe before I had realised myself” KVN adds, “we live in a world where male emotions aren’t really championed much. This song forces everyone to think about that time where they liked somebody, let them down and had to step up for their trust to be taken seriously again.” The stripped-back, raw quality of KVN’s vocals and the reflective nature of his lyricism make for a warming and addictive sound.

The first single off the EP, ‘M25‘ featuring rapper and illustrator Kieron Boothe, enjoyed support from Jamz Supernova (BBC 1Xtra/BBC 6), WDR Cosmo (Germany), GRM Daily, Wordplay Magazine and many more. The accompanying music video was directed and produced by Honey JD of Loudhouse.

Illa J and Atamone are back with Written, a song that probes the artistic process, encouraging us to break through barriers and express our best selves. Yancey explores the question personally, reminiscing on formative experiences with his brother J Dilla and waxing poetically about his own creative process. All of it is delivered with a smokey vocal that melts over a sweet-like caramel guitar riff and a trap groove from the Montréal-based collaborator Atamone, who with Yancey form a prolific production duo. The two are currently deep into studio sessions to take their creativity even further. We can’t wait to hear what they’ll write next.

New single “Minotauro” by Pachakuti & young.vishnu! The duo has established itself as one of the most promising teams on the beat & jazz scene.  Based in Berlin and Hildesheim (with family roots in Colombia & the Netherlands), they are crossing lo-fi beats, jazz, latin and new age music with seemingly effortless ease. 

Pachakuti plays sax, flute, piano, clarinet and harmonium while young.vishnu is handling the production and adding bass, drums & percussion. Signed to Melting Pot Music, the duo has released the full-lenght album „Semilla“ and the 4-track-EP „Cuentos Cortos“ since summer 2020.

MIMS is excited to share a fresh and soothing collaboration between Norwegian beatmaker, producer and DJ, Ol' Burger Beats, and legendary saxophonist and leader of the Pyramids ensemble, Idris Ackamoor. A perfect blend of organic hip hop beats and spiritual jazz. 

“Split Seconds” is taken from ‘Loft’, Ol' Burger Beats’ forthcoming album, inspired by the free and spiritual jazz played by the New York loft movement of the 1960s and 1970s. A difficult time, where economic decline and poor housing politics somehow led to some amazing, innovative music, often self-recorded to cassette tapes.

This music was recorded to tape on a loft as well, albeit far away from the original loft scene. Written during the corona pandemic, this album also emerged from a difficult time. The do-it-yourself spirit and freedom of the loft movement inspired this process a lot, and it was recorded mostly with instruments from that era. There are no static BPMs or software instruments on this LP, everything is kept as analog and authentic as possible. Vintage electric pianos, tape loops and hardware effects emulate the sounds of the 1970s and the aesthetics of hip hop sampling.

The sole collaboration between Idris and OBB on ‘Loft’, “Split Seconds” is a track of deep introspection sonically. A crossroads between spiritual jazz and the heavy lineage of hip-hop soul grooves, perfectly encapsulating the intention OBB had with melding a lot of the modern lineage with beats and the loft scene of the spiritual jazz scene in the '70s. Idris lays into some transformative lines through the entire piece while the bass, keys, percussion, and drums keep the music vibrating and pulsing in loop form and at a hypnotic level. 

“Split Seconds” will be released on December 10, with the full album, ‘Loft’, arriving on January 21st 2022, with additional special guests Wendell Harrison (Tribe) and Ralph Thomas (Zebra Jazz / BBE).
