If you think about oppositeland, the first things that come to mind are for instance: Every one is walking backwards, every thing is upside down, you talk in an opposite language and you are wearing your clothes inside out.

But if you think about it a little longer you'll soon discover that it goes a bit deeper. Your senses will get messy as well, you can hear smelly things and taste sound waves and amplitudes. Eventually you’ll learn that there is actually nothing in oppositeland, that we do have in normal life. And vice versa. All of life’s impossible-to-answer-questions will be answered in oppositeland. At the same time oppositeland can describe a less abstract story about the present and the future, where all natural life is left behind and everything is turned in mechanical and synthetic material.

Phole is a producer and pianist from Groningen, in the North of the Netherlands. At 18 he got his first piano lessons and a year later started to produce downtempo beats as "Phole". Inspired by the piano lessons Phole became interested in jazz, which you can hear in his first trip-hop EP "Pleasing.” At the moment Phole is inspired by more experimental music, and has created a unique collaboration with "Brombaer" called Globo, Since spring 2011 he is working on a new album called "Philosophy of opposite land" which will be out May 7th.

‘Ceremony’ is the second album from Slovakian composer Lukáš Bulko, who records under the name Alapastel. Bulko’s 2018 debut album ‘Hidden for the Eyes’ for James Murray’s Slowcraft was met with praise from critics and fans alike. Much like ‘Hidden for the Eyes’, the new album ‘Ceremony’ provides no easy comparisons.

Lost Tribe Sound was introduced to Alapastel by composer William Ryan Fritch in early 2021. Immediately upon listening to the demo it became clear that ‘Ceremony’ was unlike any album we’d heard before.  It’s an album built from mammoth sound objects, carved from organic sources, that feel so palpable that one could reach out and touch them. Often spanning ten + minutes, these expansive compositions are crafted with such intent and intricate detail that they never overstay their welcome.

There’s a purity and a gentleness to Bulko’s musical voice that speaks of connection, mending, of building a better existence. Subjects that are often swallowed up by the noise, the cruelty, and lack of compassion found in modern society… written off as idealistic or naive. Bulko describes the intention of ‘Ceremony’ is to facilitate a transformative experience. Much of ‘Ceremony’ was written to highlight his interest in Indigenous Peoples ability to survive using sustainable methods passed down over thousands of years, making use of techniques that helped to conserve biodiversity for future generations. Bulko’s work with Fairtrade International has nurtured this connection and belief that adopting these ancient practices is the key to continued life on this planet.

A song that was never written. Alone in a little castle in Austria, isolated from her social environment, the young artist was preparing for the upcoming big tour through the US. The never ending To-Do lists and the self-expectations about rocking this first solo tour made her freeze. She felt overwhelmed with the amount of decisions that had a huge impact of how her life will go on. She just wanted to hide from reality. One evening Elena was sitting on her bed and listened to the Multiverse Sound Meditation of Tom Kenyon. Tears were running down her cheeks. She wanted to break out of this situation and accomplish those To-Do lists with full power and trust in herself. After the first half of the meditation she suddenly had a mystic experience. She saw beings that gave her floating balls of light. During the last couple of second Elena Shirin jumped out of her bed, ran to the piano, recorded a meditative soundscape and some percussion on the cajon. From this moment on it was only about absorbing the situation. She sang out of the momentum. Still tear stained, filled with strong emotions she was screaming her soul out of her body. Like she never had before. And suddenly she realized that she jumped from the back seat in the driver seat and that she will do everything neccessary to realize her vision. The energy that the song was giving her, lead to making the song danceable and transforming a downbeat song into a footwork/juke beat.
