Despite refusing to stick to a single genre, Deft is one of those immediately recognisable producers, which is nice because it means we don’t have to waste any time comparing him to anyone else. 2013 saw the Croydon man skilfully hopping from headphone to dance styles, often within a track, his signature blend of cinematic soundscapes and crisp, intricate percussion covering hip-hop, house, and ambient. What’s more, his noteworthy contributions to the burgeoning UK footwork scene means the young producer can now count Mark Pritchard, DJ Shadow and Rockwell among his biggest fans, and boy does this boy have fans, check this Bandcamp review of his Project Mooncircle EP Voight Kampff:

Anything this magician puts out has a pretty good chance of getting you pregnant right in the good old music hole.

Emeralds opens with bubbling synths, building into epic space-station jungle juke with haunting toplines and heart-shaking bass. Cavernous electronic atmospheres introduce A Little Kiss, which interleaves percussion and stuttering bass with the incredible attention to detail we’ve come to know and love.

Octavia is a feisty younger sister to Loqux & Past, the Maya Jane Coles-championed hit from his Space Hardware EP; warm, headnod house joined by a SHOWER bass-line that roundhouse kicks its older sibling in the face for hogging the limelight. Maintaining the hyper vibes, Perky couples spiky footwork beats with slowly-evolving chords creating euphoric rises and falls, leading perfectly to the epic reflection of closing interlude On The Other Side.

All in all, Deft is an artist who continues to develop in awesome and interesting ways, increasingly able to balance striking dance music with immersive ambience. And finding his path with similarly ambitious labels like WotNot, there’s a not-too-distant future where Deft no longer worries that it’s always greener on the other side.

Deft’s ‘Blue Jasmine’ explores the juxtaposition between hypnosis and awakening. Through vast ambient soundscapes mixed with intense interchanging drums, Deft arrives at a point of awareness. There is a driving, gravitational force that dominates the listener, drawing them continuously in and out of hypnosis.

Recorded live @ The Woogie Stage, Lightning In A Bottle 2015

"The Do Lab has always been a major source of inspiration for me in my adult life. My first transformational festival was Lightning In A Bottle 2011 and it completely changed my life. The festival had such a profound impact on me that I actually took my parents to LIB 2012 when I played The Woogie Stage for the first time. That weekend was a turning point in my life as it was the weekend I realized I had enough talent to DJ for a living if I went for it 100%. I felt so inspired that I went home, quit my job, and started my own 3 day festival and events production company, Desert Hearts, with my best friends and family.  In 2014, I was lucky enough that The Do Lab asked me to play their stage at Coachella, a super surreal experience for me since Coachella 2006 was the festival that kickstarted my intense passion for music. 

I consider myself very fortunate to have witnessed the growth of The Do Lab and Lightning In A Bottle first hand.  I can't even begin to tell you how insane it was playing LIB 2015. The first time I played The Woogie Stage in 2012, there was about 50 people on the dance floor when I started my set. I can tell you I got the biggest goosebumps of my life when I stepped up and saw over 1000 people in the crowd at The Woogie in 2012. 

I want to thank The Do Lab, Jesse Wright & Sammy Bliss from The Woogie, and everyone else who's believed in me as an artist and helped me grow. I didn't think Woogie Weekend was in the cards for me this year... and just like that I'm back to where it all started. "

With his illustrious career spanning nearly two-decades now, it would be easy for Inspectah Deck to sit back and rest on his laurels; after all, he has helped create some of the best hip-hop music ever recorded. Despite his low-key persona, Deck carved out his own unique space in the Wu-Tang Clan, thanks to his stand-out verses from “C.R.E.A.M.,” “Protect Ya Neck” and his otherworldly verse on “Triumph” among many. With guest appearances from Ghostface, Action Bronson, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Roc Marciano, Vinnie Paz, Cappadonna & additional beats from DJ Premier & Oh No, you can expect nothing less then top notch production and rewind worthy lyricism from CZARFACE. "We are CZARFACE because they know our faces and they know us for being dope rhyme suppliers, like Tony Montana we are known for our balls and our word; lyrically we will conquer the world and everything in it” states Deck. Esoteric explains further, “CZARFACE is a vigilante, anti-hero character who serves as the face of the project, and his focus is on annihilating the media darlings that the mainstream caters to.”
