Remember, this was a Song Contest, not a Rap Contest (if you're looking for that scroll to the bottom of this email), so while J Faith always impresses us with his rap talent, what really won over the judges was his complete song concept and execution.

A good song needs to draw you in, have a strong message, paint a compelling picture.

And of course it helps when it has a catchy hook too!

J Faith delivered that and then some - but of course all emcees in the Top 10 created truly excellent songs.

When I first heard this song in 1966 I never thought in my wildest dreams that 53 years later I would be recording my own version. Even though sometimes it’s “a drag getting old” I can console myself with the thought that I’m one year younger than Mick Jagger and still Rockin' and singing my heart away.
