There could not be a greater friend to https://soundcloud.com/woodland-creatures-label Skwirl, or indeed the decks themselves than Orinoko (known lovingly to us as Dave). For years he's been a quiet but evergreen presence along my journey always championing my efforts and proving himself a veritable fountain of support and well wishes and I could not love him more for it. 

One thing you must know about Dave - he's a whip crack DJ - most at home cranking out techno stormers and devastating club barn burners - with a vast love for far reaching musical vistas...a man after my own heart.

And apparently it was after my heart he was determined to go when he buzzed me up to tell me he'd crafted a journey in honour of Woodland Creatures, various Skwirlisms, and specifically the Woodland Features series. The mix he sent, this mix, is an astounding piece of storytelling and world building and my cup (and my tear ducts) runneth over to be so blessed with such a dude in my life capable and inspired as he is to so delicately and perfectly express the Woodland Creatures/Features ethos and aesthetic. 

The mix is at its heart a loving series of deftly emotional moments of jazzy trip-hop and downtempo but it zooms in and out of eras and locales and styles so splendidly and cheekily that you would not be amiss to dash all notions of genre and instead find yourself overwhelmed by the incredible love and care that has gone into this mastercraft. Sometimes people make things so clearly from the heart and along the very pathways of  the soul that you can only sit back and marvel and whisper "wow" to yourself. This is one of those times.

Woodland Features w/ Skwirl Episode 23: Guest Mix - Orinoko in  "Woodland Wombling"

French disrupter Jan Loup debuts on Nerve Collect with a new EP that channels her emotional response to events of the last year into a bold collision of dubstep, breakbeats and drum and bass. Maquis Son Sistèm as well as label co-founder Gamma Intel remix two tracks on the EP which arrives digitally on May 18th.

This EP, "In My Fury", is the sound of her channelling personal challenges into empowering music that serves as a soundtrack to a therapeutic warrior dance. 'Shanti' opens up with lurching broken beats and malfunctioning percussion against a backdrop of witchy wordless mantras. It's a dense and eerie dystopian world that leads into the more ethereal 'Oda Damo Asodi' backlit by celestial white light as ghoulish sounds and fractured drums come at you from all directions. 'Mojo Nosoa' is jittery dubstep with menacing low ends and jumbled metal sounds conveying the breakdown of a factory and 'In My Fury' is built on a heavy half-time rhythm that fizzes with caustic sounds.

First to remix is Maquis Son Sistèm aka Stefan Dubs, a sound system music innovator who tangles disparate sounds into trance-inducing rhythms. His take on 'Shanti' is a deeply hypotonic world of loopy sound detailed with sonic bacteria, alien life forms...  more

Uneven is a Bristol-based producer and DJ who has been contributing wholeheartedly to the autonomic sound - originally founded by dBridge and Instra:mental - for years. He runs the Squares Music label with fellow producer Jaskin and is the driving force behind the Epified night in his hometown, dedicated to the deeper kind of jungle drum and bass music. His debut on Defrostatica is marked by three tunes that build on his reputation and offer a vanguard perspective that works in a club environment.

POLAAR is excited to announce the upcoming release of SNKLS, an artist who is redefining the boundaries of footwork and IDM. A collaborator since the label's inception, SNKLS crafts tracks where fragmented percussion intertwines with IDM and dub influences, drawing inspiration from the techniques of concrete music. His style is marked by a minimalist approach, where each element is pushed to its extreme, adding an introspective dimension to his compositions.

With « ELEMENTS », his new four-track EP, SNKLS makes his most powerful statement. Each piece plunges into a realm of bleep and dub techno, while others explore gong sounds and repetitive motifs, subtly evoking traditional Eastern music and minimalism. Building directly on the foundation laid by his previous EP, **Half Horn**, SNKLS skillfully plays with our mental space, transforming this listening experience into an immersive and obsessive journey that is undeniably modern.
