2020 was the year that dancefloors emptied around the world. This episode is a tribute to club music that came out that year and didn’t test a sound system. In a fast paced, trend recycling environment, terms such as longevity and ephemerality gain a new meaning: how old or new is a tune that was released almost two years ago if you never danced to it? Props to all the producers and labels that kept the fire burning regardless of the unprecedented circumstances surrounding the culture world then and yet once again.

The latest instalment focuses on low end bpm juggling where anything goes below 100 and over 150. A Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde atmosphere, reflecting the optimism and dreams of a new year vs January’s blues amplified yet again by empty dance floors.

The Evil Tom Show - 14.09.2022

Dub music and its production values has been a well of inspiration for many a musical genre. This first episode is an homage to its footprint on techno, house and club music in general, and how a plethora of producers from different eras around the world interpreted its influence. Two hours of reverbs and delays, hisses and crackles, subtle variations and a sense of stasis not unlike autumn itself when there is a moment that time has almost frozen in its own melancholy.

MJH2023 002 by Marc Hasler

I first tried DJing in June of 1998, using a broken Technics 1200 and an unreliable belt drive turntable from a local thrift store. I wasn't competent until after picking up real 1200s a year later, but that summer was the departure point for the many twists and turns of my DJ life.

Now it's 25 years later. I have little to show in the way of fame or money, but I'm rich in friends, music and memories. I'm celebrating those loves in the best way I can, by sharing music from throughout the long, weird journey.

I'll be performing one livestream mix a month from January to June of 2023, then putting the live cut on Soundcloud a few days later. Some will be broadcast from my basement, some from live gigs, and some from who knows where? Each mix will cover distinct tempos and styles I've played over the years, all while maintaining the heady, melodic, sometimes dark vibes that characterize all my music.

I hope family, friends and fans join me for any or all of the 6+ mixes. The March edition centers my deep love for all things 303. Best be prepared for a wee bit of an acid onslaught.
