I watch the sun as it falls from the sky;
Soon there'll be no sign of reply.
Can you imagine just one day without its light?
Summer sunshine in June: exchange the dawn for constant night.

I watch the boats as they sway with the tide;
Soon they'll be lying on their sides.
Suppose the waters withdrew like a secret door ...
Shipwrecked sailors will know what to see on ocean floors.

I watch the catch being hauled to the quay;
Soon they'll be trawling back at sea.
But if the last ones fill the net, will they throw them back?
Large fish eat small fish and die, like ev'ryone, a simple tack.

Watch your own shadow lengthening;
Soon death may reach us on a wing.
And if our friends are but a few, who'll save our skin?
Humans leaving the Earth: so please inform the next of kin.

Waves surround me,
Drifting on the tide.
Look around me,
For the great dividing line;
East meets West here,

Fear of the unknown.

Show me the edge of the ocean.

Four miles to the floor,
Deepest blue and green.
Coloured fish galore,
Behind that silver screen they swim;
No questions asked of me,
Here on a whim,
My own fantasy.
Thought they said the sea was alive,
Show me King Canute.

Jewels in his crown,
Three teeth to his sceptre.
Tired eyes do frown,
For he can't accept the loss;
Keep pouring in our waste,
Sick of the dross,
Nature is defaced.

Show Me King Canute

I contemplate my seventh decade with a fresh impetus to make it memorable and finally prioritise personal love or disappointment ahead of mysteries of the physical universe.
 
I'm a perfectionist and 'jack of all trades', sing and most frequently play drums, electric and acoustic guitar, bass guitar, piano, keyboards, alto and tenor saxophone. All my work is self-written, and recorded and produced at home. Lovingly maintained tape machines have been superseded by multi-track hard-disk recording (still Emagic Logic 5.5.1 for Windows).
