Enigma  Le Roi Est Mort Vive Le Roi!

One of my most personal mixes. For this one I really tried to go outside the box conceptually - who would have thought to do a fantasy role-playing themed drum and bass mix? Having been a life long Dungeons and Dragons fan, I thought it would be cool to basically let everyone know that I was into role-playing games. And for the intro I was able to lock down the voice of Optimus Prime himself Peter Cullen! During the recording process I was patched into his headphones when he was in the studio and was even able to direct him. It wasn't until later that I discovered he had voiced the character of Venger on the 80's cartoon series Dungeons and Dragons. Awesome! The artwork was once again handled by the legendary Akira Takahashi. One of the coolest parts of the art is the reoccurring image of a dragon which is an exact copy of the dragon tattoo on my back. I always thought Akira was very clever to incorporate that image so deeply throughout the design. Though you cannot see it here, I spent a lot of time working on the liner notes so that they kind of read like stuff you would find in Dungeons and Dragons rulebooks. One of the coolest things about this project was being able to get remixes made of popular non-dnb artists like Tiësto, Sasha, Josh Wink and BT. It really sort of pushed this thing over the top at the time. Finally there is something that needs to be said about one of the tracks on here. The Paul B + Subwave remix isn't of the Tiësto tune "Flight 643". It is a remix of his track "Lethal Industry". I can't remember why this happened in the first place, but there you go! Enjoy :)

Soulful vocals and epic cinematic breakdowns take the ordinary bass vibe into a refreshingly illuminating and otherworldly place. Raised in Southern California but recently moved to Portland Oragon, CRIMES! has previously released with Saturate Records and Never Slept and has been supported by Noisia, Plastician and DJ Craze.

"With the abundance of genres being birthed within multiple music scenes, its hard to pin point the direction of my music. I like to keep evolving styles and having no two beats sound the same. I come from a heavy hip hop background, hailing from the West Coast I've been exposed to some of the best and eclectic in the game. Having been heavily inspired by the beat scene in LA and also electronic music, naturally the two mixed into the sound I've been pushing. It was an honor having the crew at 20/20 interested in my music, so naturally I was excited to work on this EP. There's a dark and light side to these tracks combining 8bit sci-fi fantasy with a heavy bass hip hop twist."

Released in April of 2006, the HUMAN RESOURCE was a compilation of musical highlights from my drum and bass label HUMAN IMPRINT. The double vinyl release had brand new exclusive remixes and original music. The double CD release consisted of 12 tracks on CD1 and a great mix of 22 label jams on CD2 by my boys @evolintent entitled “Evol Intent Assemble The Monster”. The entire visual and audio “concept” for the album was based on the story of Frankenstein (hence the mix name). I collaborated on the mix intro with @evolintent and we called it VIVIFY (to animate / enliven). The packaging design was an idea that i worked out with my friend @joelsavitzky. He crushed it. I designed the HUMAN RESOURCE lettering for the front of the release. The inside of the booklet was bright red with an overlay of clear ink that looked like muscle tissue and a quote from the vocal we had made for the intro track - “the switch thrown as raw lightning arcs down the line / violent / consuming the cold form upon the table / within moments the power is diminished / by the glimmer of the half extinguished light / i saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open / it breathed hard and a convulsive motion agitated its limbs”. Lots and lots of thought went into what should have been a simple "Best Of” release. Extremely proud of this one.
