To participate in the Haiku Music challenge::

- Make a song in response to the weekly assigned poem (a new poem is published every Wednesday)
- When choosing a title for your piece also include the assignment number, for example “Title of your track (naviarhaiku382)”

To submit your track:

- If you’re a Soundcloud user, upload it on Soundcloud and send me the URL via private message, or tag me in the track.
- If you upload your music on Youtube, Bandcamp or anywhere else, upload your submission and then send me the link by email at marco@naviarrecords.com or contact me on X, Facebook or Instagram
- If you don’t use any music platform, upload it to this Dropbox folder and I’ll include it in the weekly playlist. If you choose this option, make sure you include your name in the track’s title. www.dropbox.com/request/JvKyUfuCSzJ3gRNRocZz

A small sequence of three notes played with a metallophone recorded in a separate instance of Gauss per note and looped, combined and processed with SpaceFields.

Everything was created in virtual modular using VCV Rack, manipulated live via mapped physical controls, split and recorded to multiple tracks in one live take.

With the exception of one equaliser plugin used in mastering and a single Surge XT low pass filter module used within the VCV patch as it was simpler to modulate, all effects and filters used are from the Fre Airwindows collection: https://www.airwindows.com  I had wanted to experiment with these as they are implemented as both plugins in a variety of formats and as VCV Modules.

The bell samples used are my own.

Mizuhara Shuoshi was a 20th century Japanese poet. Shuoshi rebelled against the principles of emotional detachment in haiku, which he thought limited his ability to emotionally express himself through poetry: he started a magazine called Staggerbush which focused on a more romantic, lyrical type of haiku.

I'm primarily a visual artist both 2D and 3D, for the last decade I've operated almost exclusively in the digital 3D realm.   since the late 80s I've made periodic forays into the sonic world, MIDI sequencing, minimalism, musique concrète, found sounds  and improvisation. I am seldom happy with anything and seldom consider a piece finished.
