To participate in the Haiku Music challenge::

- Make a song in response to the weekly assigned poem (a new poem is published every Wednesday)
- When choosing a title for your piece also include the assignment number, for example “Title of your track (naviarhaiku382)”

To submit your track:

- If you’re a Soundcloud user, upload it on Soundcloud and send me the URL via private message, or tag me in the track.
- If you upload your music on Youtube, Bandcamp or anywhere else, upload your submission and then send me the link by email at marco@naviarrecords.com or contact me on X, Facebook or Instagram

Vincenzo, aka El Wud, is an electronic musician from Naples, Italy.

A regular participant in our haiku music challenge, El Wud uses sound overlaps, causal collisions and cosmic echoes to create evocative soundscapes.

I translated Vincenzo's haiku from Italian, and made some minor variations. I hope you'll find it inspiring.

I used a combination of the probabilistic generative instrument Ongaku from Giorgio Sancristoforo; https://www.giorgiosancristoforo.net Ongaku is just over half way down the page. And Voltage Modular from Cherry Audio: https://cherryaudio.com/products/voltage-modular I experimented with running Voltage as a plugin which allowed me to run it in parallel with Ongaku and make a single "Live" performance, the downside to this was that I couldn't assign physical controls, all mouse and window flipping.

The bell samples used at the beginning and which reappear later processed through granular synthesis and multiple delays are my own recordings.

This was my contribution for Disquiet Junto Project 0686: Catch Your Breath. The Assignment: Listen to yourself inhale and exhale; make music from what you sense.

Lately, I’ve been thinking of experimenting with music that could evoke the empty, transitional, surreal, and perhaps eerie aesthetics of liminal spaces. This week’s prompt about breathing seemed like it would make for an interesting soundscape if combined with that vibe. 

This was produced in Ableton Live 12 using Slate + Ash Spectres Multisample. Two tracks were created using a MIDI keyboard, with built-in effects. Additional atmospheric tracks were added from various field recording samples that were recorded last week.

The construction of this one is quite minimal, just two elements. Even though the track was performed and recorded in a single take it does have two distinct phases. 

The opening "Splash of colour" section was achieved with a simple VCV Rack virtual modular patch and a lot of experimental modulation, I used some external compression to even it out somewhat. With the modulation dialled back to little or nothing the same patch becomes a backdrop for the "Petals drifting" conclusion. For this I live improvised sparce single notes; very simple VCV patch piped to the Blackhole reverb from Eventide.

I'm primarily a visual artist both 2D and 3D, for the last decade I've operated almost exclusively in the digital 3D realm.   since the late 80s I've made periodic forays into the sonic world, MIDI sequencing, minimalism, musique concrète, found sounds  and improvisation. I am seldom happy with anything and seldom consider a piece finished.
