Welcome to Frequency Underground! We feature the best in regional house and techno each and every Thursday. We've got another artist out of Greenville this week, Zoltan, and he's put together a great selection of house tunes for this week's mix!

FREQUENCY UNDERGROUND INTERVIEW WITH ZOLTAN:

◾Real Name: Zoltan Zicho

◾Current city: Greenville, SC

◾How and when did you get into djing: 
I've had a passion for music since young age and I was going to all kind of parties (in Hungary where I was born) but the techno and house parties made me want to get into djing. I completely fell in love with techno and house and wanted to explore and experiment with the sound myself (was around 2005).  Me and some of my like-minded friends invested in gear and started buying records and just played for fun. The breakthrough year for me was 2007, when I started to throw parties in my city and later collaborate with some of the well-known crews in the country. 

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: 
I was influenced by all the music I listened to really but mostly by what I heard at the parties I went to. It started with 2000's trance (Paul van Dyk, ATB, Robert Miles), I was also into progressive house at that time (Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman) and hard groove techno (Carl Cox, DJ Rush, Umek, Chris Liebing, Marco Bailey, Ben Sims, Dave Clarke, Marco Carola) then around 2005 minimal techno - which was my favorite for 10 years (Richie Hawtin and the M_nus label, Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Vath). I've also been influenced by chicago, new york, UK acid house (Frankie Knuckles, Derrick Carter, Felix da Housecat, Nu Groove records)
They were all source of inspiration and helped me understand music better as a dj. 

◾Describe your sound as a DJ:
I love to see people lose themselves in the music. When they do they dance and smile. That's what I'm looking for with my sound.

◾If you could play a b2b with anyone, who would it be: 
Techno: Richie Hawtin or Ben Sims, House: John Summit would be a killa b2b

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist:
Since a year ago I've been really into house music, it sparked me to reshape my sound. I've teamed up with DJ Sawce and we had a couple of parties this year and all of them were a hit. We'll start a monthly house music event in downtown Greenville, called 4 to the floor. This new journey I'm on is very exciting and has brought more success than before. I hope to continue like this.

Hopefully we'll be welcoming spring soon, but before that, here's the last of our winter discoveries. There's been a lot, and we love it. We are talking mostly about the deep breaks / electronica sound but there's some pure dancefloor bangers as well.
Towards the end we included three tracks for our friend DJ Brada, who has just celebrated his birthday. He's (besides breaks) a big dnb fan, so we chose two breakbeat remixes of dnb classics by Nixon. The third track is by Los Dodos, Brada's project with Grove, and Rokytka is one of their first tracks from 2009. Happy Birthday mate!
