Darkness

For quite a while now techno seems to have been dominated by huge trance synths, pop vocals and euro dance nonsense.

While this sound has dominated, there's still a lot of great music being made, and unfortunately it's going unnoticed too often became it still has that grit and drive to it that modern techno has lost.

The Social Unrest Mix and Video series will reflect on that gritty underbelly and show that techno doesn't need to be big rooms, 150 bpm hands in the air nonsense.  All mixes can be downloaded or watched on Youtube following the link below or the watch button above.

Now based in Lyon, Florian Grangier is an artist of the French techno scene since 2009. It was under the name of Don Serata that he started to play before creating his  tracks. From 2011, he took part in an EP with the label French Frequency, the several tracks and EPs in Europe and the USA (Coco Machete, Macro Records,Deal With It). Wishing to be more autonomous and curious to discover new talents, he created in 2014 his own label Unusual Records to broadcast his music and support other artists, while performing in local clubs (DV1, Life City, 101, Ninkasi, Maison Mère, Terminal, ...). Full of resources andsurprises, this versatile and passionate artist will catch the attention, as was the case in 2018 with Nina Kraviz who caught up his track London in her own DJ sets. In 2019, after 10 years of mix and production, he takes a new identity and becomes Amour Noir, a confirmation of a style and a state of mind, committed to asserting a techno music that is both powerful and attractive. Genesis - The Cinema Show (Diversion)

Bayaka women singing lingboku songs. Lingboku songs are celebrations of female power and often include a lingboku spirit, which is not seen but can be heard 'hooting'. Recorded by Louis Sarno in the Central African Republic on the 6th May 1993.

Louis Sarno, a pioneering field recorder, has been recording Bayaka music in the rainforests of the Central African Republic and Republic of Congo since 1985. His ethnographic collection of more than 1000 hours of audio and thousands of images is curated by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
