Mr. Bill - IRL (Final Album Teaser)

West coast bass music wizards Hypha and Trevor Kelly have combined forces for a new seductive collaboration EP, "Savvy Lens", out now for free on Gravitas Music. Simultaneously inventive and familiar, every song proves to be a gem sprinkled into today's electronic music climate. The title track dawns the album with a provocative punch, pulling you in with luscious synth work and no shortage of imaginative sound design. "Geeked", Trevor's solo offering, takes the tried Trap mechanism and sends it on a submarine trip through subaqueous wobbles and tribal percussion. Next, Hypha tickles ear drums and nose hairs with his tense and groovy "Supra". Wrapping up the 5 track album, both producers trade remixes of the other's original work, further melding their particular sounds into something fresh and engaging.

From his adopted home of Denver, Colorado, the Australian native Mr. Bill has compiled four tracks as his newest release for Gravitas Recordings, entitled “CSS 24-27”. The EP serves as part of his “Corrective Scene Surgery” series, where Bill and visual artist Funi collaborate on the release of singles which slowly unfold a story, song by song. . A polished synthesis of funky, memorable melody and imaginative sound design set the pace for this release, with each of the four tracks offering a unique glimpse of the muse which Mr. Bill draws from.

I was messing around with his modular rig + my Mother 32 & Makenoise 0-Coast whilst he was playing a Nord Stage & Dave Smith Instruments - Prophet 6 over it (guy is a BEAST of a keyboardist).

This was the most fun I've had with live music performance in quite a while. 

I've realised over the past 18 months or so that ALL live musical performances are conditional. Some are more conditional than others. In most cases, musical performances adhere to a coherent tempo, key, vibe, feel/swing/groove & motif, and I feel that's important. You need to be coherent with other players for the end result to have any sort of real impact or weight in it's emotional conveyance. So over this past 18 months I've been trying to find a nice balance between coherency/end-result & emotional/ musical expression - I feel like this is the closest I've come to that so far.
